Not sure how to review something like this. It was very informative and helpful. Really just throwing this review out there as a fun way to announce to a certain person who I know will see it. Surprise! We’re expecting!

Not worth the time. This spends more time fat shaming prospective mothers and talking about fashion choices/body image than anything else. Some of the “for dad” sections - particularly in the postpartum section - are hideously outdated, sexist, and harmful.

Also, everyone needs to know this book uses the phrase “deadly semen backup” completely unironically. Sorry men, but you not having sex for 6+ weeks after your partner has carried and delivered your child is not gonna get a boo hoo from me.

Talk about your guilt trips! I know this is a popular gift to give someone who is expecting a baby and it does contain some useful info. but it does seem like the Martha Stewart approach to child rearing. Inpractical for most of us mortals.

It's typical but this is the best all round pregnancy book our there, at least that I've read so far.
Tons of knowledge. Very American though, many things available to American and not Canadians or rest of the world, but fair enough.
I've been reading chapter by chapter as the months go by. 3 quarters of the book is about the months, what to expect, how big is baby, the development, the doctors visits, what to notice, etc. And the other quarter is about post partum, labor, having multiples, complications, etc.

This book gives the worse breastfeeding advice ever! And gives all around outdated advice in regards to pregnancy and infants.

This book has EVERYTHING! I am someone who, when it comes to advice, especially with pregnancy, I'm EXTREMELY picky. I was recommended this at the beginning by many people, including my boss at the time, my mother and my mother-in-law. Because of this, it was the only book I'd consider getting because before then, I was gonna wing it. FYI - this is my first pregnancy.

I am n  SOn glad I picked this up (and was gifted another copy but gave it away to another fellow pregnateer). I was originally following the book as I progressed, which is why it took me so long to finish it, but then eventually realized since you can't predict any pregnancy, I should go ahead and try to read ahead and finish it. I can always come back to it for reference if need be.

n  This book is so realistic and hits every topic and I feel is sensitive to everyone's wants/needs without beating around the bush.n

Now, there are some blogs/newsletters I am signed up for that although I personally adore because it hits my personality type (doesn't take things too seriously/sarcasm at it's finest type of talk) that I obviously would only recommend to people who enjoy that type of talk, even with pregnancy. This book, I wholeheartedly believe is for EVERYONE. And you can skip over the parts that don't relate to you, huzzah!

I've read this book, I use the What To Expect daily app, I receive the emails and because of how much I've loved all of it and it has educated me SO much (let's be honest, before this - I barely knew what a baby was..), I also picked up What To Expect Your First Year. I will be starting this very soon and maybe not make the choice of "reading along."

If you're expecting, or planning or whatever and don't know where to start, GET THIS! I could easily say it's the only book you'll need (it even has a for the dad section if he's into it.) LOVELOVELOVE THIS COMFORTING/EDUCATIONAL BOOK <3

So well known that it needs no introduction. I actually was hesitant about reading it because I was worried that maybe it would be too simplified. But no, having read both the Mayo Clinic book and the ACOG book, this one was the best of the 3. Week by week breakdowns, everything that needs to be looked out for, every complication that is possible, questions to ask, suggestions for partners, etc...it is 100% a must read for the couple.

I found this book informative but a bit "old school". Each chapter has a large section of questions and answers, most of which did not apply to me personally (chances are most woman won't experience every pregnancy symptoms) so I just found it boring at times. In this internet day and age, I found myself heading to google with the questions that I did have instead of having to search the large book for the answers. I can see how this would have been the pregnancy bible back in the day...but it's just not as handy in today's internet age.

Lots of info, and most quite useful.
The style is very dry and interrupted by a myriad of info boxes, plus the humour is incredibly bad.
