Ha estat d'ajuda per orientar-nos en les fases de l'embaràs. Però el cert és que l'enfocament va en direcció contrària als meus pensaments.

I started reading this book at about month 5 of my pregnancy, so until about 38% I was reading about stuff that no longer applied to me. But I think that's a good thing - because compared to what was described, my personal experience was much easier. Common as those symptoms might be, I had almost none of them. So as I read on ahead, to things that are yet to come (and all of it sounded terrifying) my dread was mixed with hope - maybe it won't be that bad for me, either.

The book was ok - it gave a comprehensive overview of a wide variety of topics. But because it aims to cover everything, including twin pregnancies, all kinds of complications, miscarriages, pregnancies occurring through assisted reproductive technology like IVF, single mom and same-sex family situations, surrogacy, etc. - it's very long, 650+ pages, and most of it was irrelevant to me. Also, it's written for Americans, so it references some legal stuff and government help programs that don't apply to me; and also everything is in Fahrenheit, inches, ounces etc. which I needed a calculator to convert (but mostly just didn't bother).

The author also tried to bring in some levity via plentiful puns like “…that swelling you think isn’t so swell”. I found that mostly cringy.

So overall the book was fine, but if I had to pick all over again knowing what it is, I'd probably look for a different one.

This book was such a waste of time. Also the authors treat the reader like pregnancy is this awful thing they you need them to educate you on and it just got old...

I had three reactions reading this book:

1) Oh, ok, so that's normal.
2) Thank god I don't have THAT.
3) randomly crying mid-chapter each time it said 'your baby'.

Very informative and recommended for anyone like me who needs to know absolutely everything and consider every single scenario.

This was my pregnancy bible. By the time I actually had my kids this poor book was dog eared and falling apart. I highly recommend this book for all expectant mothers and fathers out there. It has most of the answers to any questions you may have. I know it gave me a peace of mind on many occasions.

Very helpful and informative. I read this month by month through my first pregnancy and it was definitely worthwhile. There has not been a single pregnancy related question I've had that I haven't been able to find information about in this book. I tried not to do too much pregnancy related reading as there is so much out there and it can be overwhelming, but if you're only going to read one book or guide, I would definitely recommend this one.

Eskiden hamilelikle ilgili telefon uygulaması yokken sanırım bu kitap alanında bir efsane olabilirdi

How can you complain about too much information? This book was great, practical and reassuring. The index had most every topic I could think of. However, the version I read needed an update on epidurals since it didn't recognize that many women today have them during childbirth.
It does have diet guidelines that are healthy goals. I personally didn't follow them but they might be useful for someone who thinks that it is ok to gorge on whatever you want just because of being pregnant.

I came across this book for I think 50 cents at a used book store and figured it wouldn't hurt to see what it said. It has been a very good investment it turns out. This book is highly informative with an easy approach that keeps it from being overwhelming. It gave me good topics and questions to discuss with my doctors, and almost all of the information coincides with what I was taught by my doctors and my baby classes. Having that consistency was comforting, and helpful for my memory. I like that it explores a variety of care options with pros and cons for all options, and resources for learning about the more "uncommon" approaches.

Well, some of my goodreads friends may think (and I wouldn't blame them) that pregnancy has made me completely illiterate, so it's about time I caught up with my updates. It's true, between doing baby registry research, diaper research, birth research, and driving to work for the past three months instead of taking public transit, I've had much less time to read than before, but I suppose that's just preparation for the busy time to come. In any case, on to the reviews...

Starting with this one, which my friend Caitlin refers to as "the one everyone loves to hate." I couldn't agree more. This book is a fear-mongering nightmare - please do yourself a favor and skip it. Every chapter is made up of hysterical pregnant women's questions about all of the stuff that can go wrong. And the advice is all about how to be the absolutely perfect mother, so that you don't f-up your baby by taking one wrong step. The best example of this is their "best bite for your baby" approach to eating - before every bite you take, you're supposed to ask yourself whether it's the most nutritious thing you could be eating. Well, no, the riotous amounts of milkshakes and Kraft Singles that I've consumed in the past few months were probably not the most nutritious things I could have put in my body, but, man, were they satisfying! And a happy mommy = a happy baby, so the authors can shove it. If anyone wants to give you this book, just refuse politely. You'll be happier as a result, and far less paranoid.
