The book Bergdorf Blondes is about a girl who is searching for a rich fiancé, private jets, lots of clothes and accessories. When meeting her first love, Zach she falls in love with him until she finds herself in a love triangle with Charlie.

The main character is a girl but the author didn't mention her name so she presents herself as moi (It means “me” in French). She is a young girl who is trying to live her life in the best way possible. The other main character is Moi’s best friend, Julie and she is a spoiled New York girl who gets everything she wants.

The setting in the story changes because the characters move from a place to other but mostly they are taking place in New York. The author didn't mention any time, but some people in the story were using mobiles so I guess it is at the beginning of the 21th-century.

The story´s main theme is love. The book is very chick lit.

My favorite part of the book is when the main character finds the love of her life. After many failed relationships with many different guys she finds Charlie, and I like him because he loves her so much and respects her like no other guy have. There were some parts that made me happy and others that made me sad. The parts where she finds a person she really liked and felt comfortable around made me really happy for her, but when she discovered that the people she likes didn't like her back and broke her heart, made me feel so bad for her. There are also parts in the story that is a little bit funny and I think that it is a nice touch to add some humor to the story.

The thing that I didn't like about the book is there are some shortenings that I didn't really understand. The author did explain some of them but there were still some that she didn't mention, so it was a little bit difficult to follow the story.

I like chick lit because I enjoy reading about rich girls´ silly problems. Problems as: they couldn't book a time at nail salon, they didn't get that expensive purse because of the long queue or that another girl had the same clothes as them. I like to read about their problems because I think that they are really funny because they are so dumb.

I recommend this book to young girls who like to dream about New York and like chick lit books. I didn't find a message in the book but I guess not giving up hope just because you failed once, twice or more is a one way to see it.

I found this book very boring and the characters extremely predictable... I thought this was supposed to be a very funny/cynical book and a social critique with a twist but in the end it was just another bad chick lit book (the ending was particularly appalling!).

This book is silly and fun. It’s not great “literature”; although it’s a PERFECT beach read. The characters are as real today as they were in 2004 and 1987. Plum Sykes writes about the world she knows. Ahhh, to be a Park Avenue Princess!

Buku ini menurutku sih, lumayan lucu. Yup, another chick-lit. Cerita tentang kehidupan kaum ‘jet-set’ di Manhattan. Di awal buku ini, disebutkan, “Bergdorf Blondes are a things, you know, a New York craze. Absolutely everyone wants to be one, but it’s actually trés difficult. You wouldn’t believe the dedication it takes tp be a gorgeous, flaxen-haired, dermatologically perfect New York girl wit a life that’s fabulous beyond beliefe. Honestly, it all requires a level of commitment comparable to, say, learning Hebrew or quitting cigarettes. (page 1).

Ibunya pengen banget ngejodohin Moi sama tetangga sebelah rumah mereka yang sering disebut-sebut ‘Little Earl’.

Langsung aja Julie bilang, “E-mail me the whole things, lie everyone but me having a fiancé. It’s so unfair.” (page 16). Sepertinya Julie gak mau ketinggalan ‘trend’ tunangan di antara teman-temannya, dia bilang, “Fiancés are so glam!” (page 18)

I forgot all about this book.. I wish she would write more books like this. I like sequels with the same characters transitions through life.. I get sad when some books end then excited seeing another story about them.. It was another easy book because the story was fun and i enjoyed her descriptive details. If your into fashion magazines, exspensive clothes, and hearing about what the stars do or how they live, then youll enjoy this and alot of the books ive read...ive saved alot of money buying one book compared to 15 gossip magazines and 8 fashion magazines a month!!!

If you think Brazilian is a nationality, that PJ's are pyjamas and that Beyond is somewhere far away, then you have never met a Bergdorf Blonde. Plum Syke's heroine is British but has moved to America, working for a glossy magazine. She takes us with her into the glamorous world of Park Avenue Princesses who careen through New York in search of the ever elusive 'Fiance,' the perfect fake tan and that Chanel from the sample sale. In a fabulously witty style, Plum Sykes makes us root for her glorious heroine all the way from New York to the South of France and back by PJ (private jet.) She will get her Harry Winston and her Vera Wang wedding dress yet!

My opinion
Bergdorf Blondes was a pleasant chick lit read that combined three of my favorite things - New York City, traveling to various exotic locations (including England) and a relatable protagonist who enjoyed shopping, beauty rituals and writing Story line was not amazing, but the writing made me laugh out
The book flows so well you can finish it in an hour.
Sykes gives you somewhat of a first-hand account of the ditz and glamour. All too entertaining characters, dialogue and tres exclusive terms.
Oh and it's a nice little love story too.
Definitely recommended for a quick, fun read. A fun no brainer book to keep you totally amused especially when you don't want to think to hard reading. It is quite entertaining.

Bergdorf Blondes is the tale of ueber-rich young ladies in New York City trying to snag suitable mates.

This is the kind of book that I consider "a light bit of confection." Not much to it, not the most complex story line, but enjoyable enough and fulfilling as a "time waster."

I was surprised, while reading some of the reviews on Goodreads, to see how much vitriole people had towards this book. I can see where people with more reasonable lifestyles and better heads on their shoulders might find this book offensive to their sensibilities, but I guess I just didn't take it all that seriously. This wasn't meant to be world-class fiction.

I realize that there probably are real people out there in the world like the "heroines" of this book - the bergdorf blondes. But this glimpse inside their glitzy world honestly made me feel better about my own decidedly unglamorous life, which isn't nearly as vapid or pointless as theirs.

I think this one is a great bit of fluff for beach reading or for those moments when you want to unwind without thinking too hard.

Is another terrible novel that I'm dying to tell you all about. I'm sure this can't be healthy, but meh. Anyhow. This one was written in 2005 by a person called Plum Sykes (real name Victoria Sykes) who worked for Vogue magazine and lived in the shallow nonsense-fest that is the target market of Sex and the City - i.e. deeply unlikeable New York bimbos.

They say you should always write what you know. Based on this, I really, really, don't want to know the author.

Anyhow. My mother recommended this to me as something to execrate. So here goes.

Executive Summary

Poor Little Rich Girl, The Novel.

A bit more detail if you wouldn't mind?

Do I have to?

Alright, if you insist. Bergdorf Blondes is the tale of a woman who narrates this in the first person and is nameless. However, she tells us that she's part American and part British aristocrat - much like the author. That said, she has an increasingly annoying habit of inserting gratuitous French like saying how something is trés in or referring to herself as moi. And being the sort of stupid useless effort that anyone with an ounce of sense would have run screaming from long before. Her interests are, by her own admission, buying designer clothes, not eating, and attention whoring. And just plain whoring - she spends an inordinate amount of time trying to find a "PH" or Potential Husband who is suitably rich, handsome, and has a mutton mallet the likes of which you've probably seen hanging about between the legs of a Grand National winner.

This is also what everyone who the protagonist knows - "NY girls," she calls them - do also. We're supposed to think that being an astoundingly rich trustafarian in New York is meant to be difficult. All the social intrigue that isn't, society parties, and having "Shame Attacks." This is where you suddenly work out what a colossal skidmark on the dunghampers of humanity you really are and end up buying a DVD player. Apparently it's very expensive as you then end up having to spend money on therapists, alternative therapists, dermatologists (if the author is to be believed then there are designer dermatologists at which it is "in" to go), and general woo-mongers. I tell you, I wish I was a peddler of questionable psychobabble woo. I'd move to New York and, once I'd convinced the locals that I wasn't an Australian as they thought the last time I was there, I'd be rolling in money. Because of stupid airheaded bimbos like the protagonist/author (same person, I'm increasingly sure).

What she does for a living is write for a fashion magazine. I hate to sound like this novel is made of predictability, but she does. She also gives us an insight into the argot of NY Girls. Basically, everything is glam or icky, and if you're thin then you're "ana" and this is a good thing. Because every PH likes a woman that he seriously risks snapping in two while he's kicking her front end in, doesn't he? Sorry, did I say, kicking her front end in? I meant "going to Brazil," because all the NY girls have subscribed to that ridiculous fashion for bald genitals.

The low point for me had to be Chapter 6, where the heroine attempted suicide. To do this, she specifically got a one-way plane trip to Paris, bought a one-off designer dress so to do, and wrote a suicide note that made fascinatingly detailed teen angst bullshit day logs sound terse. Why do this? Because her fiancé had left her because he realised what a horrible waste of space she really was and he could do better with a woman who wasn't so superficial and overdramatic and emo. Ugh. She failed, of course, because we're less than halfway through the book, although it would have been a much improved book if she did succeed in rubbing herself out and the rest of it was blank pages.

No, she has to carry on annoying us with her plotless waste of time for page after page, chapter after chapter. I'm sure this will appeal to you if you like Sex and the City (and who does - I knew someone at university who was, by her own admission, SATC's biggest fan even though, also by her own admission, 3/4 of the episodes were pants. Why, I asked. Because of the couture. Ugh.) But there could at least be a plot, come on.

We're also treated to one of the single worst lines in any work of fiction I have ever encountered. This is up there with Torchwood's "When was the last time you came so hard, you forgot where you were?" and Fifty Shades of Grey's "He's no gentleman. He has my panties!" It really is. Want to know what it is? Well, you asked for it:

n  "Two croissants, two café lattes, two hundred kisses, and an absolute minimum of two very regrettable orgasms later, we were well entrenched into the bed in 606. I felt giddy with happiness. An orgasm really is the answer to almost every problem in life. I honestly believe that if everyone was having orgasms regularly, there wouldn’t be a Palestinian conflict. Seriously, no one would ever get out of bed in time for it."n

Note also the off-handed nod to the destined never to end conflict in the Middle East. This is an example also of the hidden depths that "moi" is supposed to have but which we never see. Informed non-superficiality, methinks. Apparently she went to Princeton as well. However this I can believe; I was at the University of London with a self confessed Sloane Ranger called Jaime, who would almost certainly love this book. But I digress.

The fact is, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to read this novel on any level. There are those who claim that it is a satire, however, I must respectfully disagree. The author is deadly serious. This is evidenced by the fact that she, Plum Sykes, is a real life "It Girl" and worked for American Vogue at the time this novel was written. She used her contacts in same to research these things, and her boss, the inspiration for The Devil Wears Prada, Anna Wintour herself, would not have allowed her to take the piss and remain employed. The protagonist also enjoys several commonalities with the author, at least according to Wikipedia, what with working in the rag trade, being half New Yorker and half British aristocrat, being invited to invitation-only fashion sales, and namedropping designer labels, repeatedly. She also, by her own admission in the afterword, did the research into the thread count of designer bedsheets and other such stuff that, to a fashionista, would be deathly important. So I am convinced that she is absolutely serious about this. It's just too obvious in that if it were satire or trolling, it would be deliberately over the top. This... isn't.

In short, this novel is one of the biggest wastes of paper I have ever encountered. There is nothing honest, meaningful, or thoughty about it in the least. It is just self pity and first world problems. As I said in the introduction, if the author wrote what she knew, I do not want to know the author at any time, now, or ever.

Previously reviewed on www.simplylowcountry.blogspot.com

I came across this title while reading a friend's blog. She said it was her favorite (in fact, her second time reading it), and I was looking for a new book to read at the time. Something fluffy, girly, full of love, high fashion and a little New York City glitz. I really believe the title and cover caught my attention. What girl doesn't want to read about Bergdorf's?

The first attempt didn't go so well. I think I made it to about page 3 before I decided to put it down. After weeks of looking at this book sitting on my Kindle shelf I decided I wasn't going to waste the $6.39 I had paid Amazon for the book and began my second attempt.

I picked it up, pushed through the first three or so chapters, and ended up somewhere just short of not being able to put this book down to eat.

Just a quick piece of advice: when you get to the "lingo guide" at the end of chapter one, make sure you pay attention. Yes, that "lingo" is actually used throughout the book (PJ= private jet, Beyond= way beyond fabulous, etc.) and I promise it gets worse than that. At that point in the book I rolled my eyes and wasn't sure I'd ever actually be successful at finishing it. I was just about ready to forgo my $6 just so I didn't have to read this nonsense.

Bergdorf Blondes was written by Plum Skyes, which I'm assuming contributed to most of the hype surrounding this book. Plum Skyes has worked at and written for Vogue Magazine as well as been considered an "It Girl" by New York City society. When it comes to this type of lifestyle Plum Skyes knows what she's talking about. This was her first novel, and has since published The Debutante Divorcée.

I'll start off by saying that this book drops label names more than Gossip Girl.

Meet Moi, the main character of the book who drops a little bit of French here and there and refers to sex as "going to Brazil". She's also best friend's with Julie Bergdorf (heiress of Bergdorf's- the department store). If you've ever wondered what it was like to live as a wealthy Upper East Sider, now is your chance. You'll be introduced to Moi's posse: the New York City Upper East Side "Park Avenue Princesses". Their day to day activities consist of being socialites, finding just the right color blonde for their hair, sleeping with random men, and having more money than one could possibly know what to do with.

The "princesses" are constantly overwhelmed and stressed with the everyday chores of picking out an outfit, hosting a party, and finding a fiancè just because they are the "hottest fashion accessory". The "princesses" are constantly hopping onto the PJ's (I told you to pay attention to the lingo guide!) of wealthy men on a whim of notice who they have known for less than 24 hours. Then again if you didn't have a career or any responsibility, wouldn't you?

Moi does have a career, although you can hardly call it that. It is generally tossed to the side so she can de-stress from her highly chaotic life by lying on the pool deck of a resort while attending some international film fest in Europe.

The majority of this book is focused on Moi's love life. If you ask me, it seems like she enjoys being treated poorly by men. But, like any other chick lit novel, it'll leave you smiling at the end- no worries!

Although there is a lot of nonsense, gossip and frivolous concerns, the book does have an overall good plot, and it will keep you turning the pages. You too will want to know if Moi finds true love and whether her friendship with Julie will weather the storm.

While this book is no where near award winning material, it makes for a great summer read. Those who've enjoyed Gossip Girl and any other book about the glamorous lives of NYC's wealthy and most popular will be sure to enjoy this one as well.

Orrilibro.

ne parlo anche sul mio blog: http://paleomichilibri.blogspot.com/2...
