Another excellent Lucas Davenport novel. It started out a little slow but the finish was fantastic. I'm glad there are so many more of these to read, the series easily makes my top 10 list.

Not my favorite of the first 11 I've read. It's the longest, I think, which would be fine if it wasn't a bit tedious. In most of the books up to this point, we know who the killer is early on, so the books are a good balance of points of view. We get Lucas and his team figuring out how to catch the killer of a high profile fashion model, and the killer trying to outsmart him (and usually killing a few more people along the way). This one is a mystery. Lucas and his team are clearly at a loss in figuring out this case. There are numerous suspects, and we only get one brief snippet from the killer's point of view. So the book becomes a long police procedural as the force pulls uses all the tools they have and tries to keep the media at arms length. It drags a bit up until the last 5o pages. At the same time, Lucas is juggling his hormones and three potential women; Weather Kaarkinen, his most recent love; Catrin, an old flame from college who's married (barely); and ex-model Jael, who's potentially the next victim.

Written in 2000, when cell phones and the internet were still in their formative stages. Sandford remarks on this in the foreword of this newer edition, and it is amazing to realize just how far things have come in 20 years. Who remembers Alta Vista?

It's certainly not a bad book. It doesn't have the razor sharp focus of the others.

I like the series but this one was a bit bland. The setting wasn't all that interesting and the final reveal of the bad guy was kind of out of left field. There was no whodunit aspect. Still I like the characters and will do another but probably not for a little while.

This book easily deserved five stars but the end somewhat spoiled it all for me. It seemed the Author was trying a new tack for an ending, but it didn't quite work for me. A top model is murdered followed by others. People one suspected also buy it. Davenport is under pressure as he doesn't seem to be getting his premises right. The killer seems to be targeting all those close to the model who supposedly tried to exploit her. The Author is in top form; his dialogue is crackling and his sense of humour inserts itself, in an otherwise grim setting, in subtle ways. Definitely worth a read. Maybe others will like the ending too.

There was a lot going on here and it wasn't as fun as the female assassin. Even then, the killer and the victims weren't that interesting! This seemed mostly about Lucas and his relationships and how sometimes the decisions Lucas makes are the worst ones.

Davenport finds himself investigating the murder of model in this instalment of the Prey series. What I love most about these novels is the fact that Davenport is growing and learning as the series develops he is not the same man we met ten novels ago. Although he is still a ladies man.

There is less of a focus on the murderer in this novel than we are use to and I actually really enjoyed that. There seemed to be a lot more humor in this book than the first few. The running joke this time around involves Lucas and his mobile phone.

And that damned ending!! Sandford is the ultimate story teller.

On to book 12 as quickly as possible.

Not a bad read, but I found there were too many characters to keep track of - maybe it's just me. Other than that, a fairly solid read, kind of knew who the bad guy(s) was/were.

4 stars and a thumbs up!

Kind of a disappointing letdown with author John Sandford's eleventh Lucas Davenport series book, "Easy Prey". After the previous two books in this series being extremely solid thrillers this one falls short. The plot itself kept confusing me. With the large number of characters in this yarn it's was sometimes difficult trying to remember who fits in with who. Also the uniqueness of the character's names didn't make it much easier to follow. Coming in at over 380 really too long pages (Paperback), the plot needed a good weed-whacking. "Easy Prey", follows the nine days it takes for Davenport and team to solve murder of model/ upcoming actress and ingenue Alie'e Maison. Originally born 'Sharon Olsen' in rural Minnesota, Alie'e dies one night at a Hollywood type of party that featured drugs of all sorts. Davenport must try to determine if Alie'e O.D.'d herself or had help, and boom a second dead body falls out of a closet. Sometime drug dealer Sandy Lansing had been fatally bashed in the head and locked in a closet during the party. The party's host Sallance Hanson of course pleads ignorance to the huge quantity of illegal drugs floating around her home that night during the party. Alie'e's best friends who are brother and sister Jael Corbeau / Amnon Plain are both devastated. Amnon had a huge crush on Alie'e. The pair are both now in the high and mighty sights of Alie'e's over the top brother Tom Olsen. Tom is some ridiculous preacher wanna- be who uses fire and brimstone to guide his 'flock'. Along the way one of Davenport's key team members gets shot and may die. With team member rushed to hospital Davenport gets to bring ex-love Weather Karkinnen back into his life. However Lucas also bumps into an old college sweetheart at a local gas station ('Catrin'). In addition to the confusing murder plot Davenport gets into an annoying 'love' confusion syndrome. Davenport's wishy-washy love brings book down quite a bit. Davenport still has his uncomfortable relationship with Marcey to contend with. All in all, "Easy Prey", falls to three stars out of a possible five stars. I'm sure hope next book in series, ("Chosen Prey"), make a big rebound. Be forewarned, "Easy Prey", may be one to skip.

This was a fast paced, interesting read. It kept my attention the whole time. I didn't figure out who did it till it was revealed at the very end. There were a couple of clues that could have been followed, but I missed them, like everyone else. Maybe you can do better.

I really do like the Lucas Davenport Series. However, I could also do with about 300 less "F" words. They are so absolutely unnecessary. The plot on this one was good. Lots of twists and turns. About three different plots that keep us guessing. Kinda fun having Lucas with about three women expressing interest in him and he them. If I remember, he decides fairly soon whom he is most interested in. I'd like to clean up the language and it really is a good story. I've had a crush on Lucas' voice, sounds sexy to me. Oh well. Enjoy!!!
