I had a feeling when I put this book on hold that it would not be what I was looking for. I think I was right, so after reading only a few pages, I'm not going to read it after all. If you want a book that tells you how safe epidurals are, then this is the books for you. (To be fair there were chapters on natural pain relief, but I'd rather spend my time on other books.)
Highly recommend to all that are expecting. The information is helpful for anyone regardless of your birth plan and this book provides unbiased explanations of each pain management technique. Great way to help educate yourself on different techniques that can be used in case the unexpected arises.
I read this while pregnant with my first child and it helped my consider benefits and risks to different childbirth options. I have recommended this book to others.
Interesting. I loved all the different perspectives that the book offered regarding pain relief during birth. It is also a helpful overview of what types of methods for delivery are available for women in labor.
I thought this book was very informative - while they are clear that you can't "understand" labor pain from a book, they provide helpful information on what it can be like from reports of studies, personal accounts and more. Extensively covers lots of options and had a limited "preachy" feel - although at times, it reads very pro-epidural.
I loved that this book has so much information! I really think more information like this should be out there for women before going into labor! I would love to see another edition with more information about side affects and risks that were not mentioned.
A lot of truths that most people don't like admitting. But still leaning toward certain biased opinions instead of exploring all methods equally. Good reading and informative.
