This tight little text on personal finance feels a bit dated (I can't fathom buying a house, let alone taking out an auto loan), but I managed to find some diamonds in the rough.

Aside from the useful tax filing and investing tips, if you're already managing your finances like a responsible adult, none of Shaw's advice will be terribly surprising or informative. That said, I think this would make for a useful graduation gift. The writing is accessible and the subject matter appropriate for millennials.

"The point of the discussion is not to teach you how to make extraordinary profits by predicting the future direction of interest rates but simply to help you understand the two major factors - default risk and interest rate risk - that contribute to the uncertainty surrounding a bond's future performance."

This book is a helpful introduction to the world of personal financial planning.

By defining what a Roth IRA is and how to get the best deal on your credit card interest this book dives into ways to approach your finances in adulthood. Some of the information is pretty basic and some is helpful but overall it's a good guide. The ebook links to websites like Credit Karma and while some of the information is outdated since being published (for example the interest rates of federal loans) these things are called out in the book and you can see what the current rates are.

This book won't necessarily help you save money but if you already have a steady income and money to throw around (this book refers to a 6 figure salary as measly at one point) this book can help you plan for the future.

This book made it on to my TBR in late March 2018 when my grandmother passed away, so I am guessing that's why I didn't rate it.

I did finish this book, and I loved it so much I've recommended it to my twenty-something brother and my fifty-something mother. It is bite-sized bullet point suggestions on small steps to take to get your finances in order. I found it very helpful, I've implemented some strategies I learned and I recommend it to any person who wants to get their financial sh*t together.

Just in time for tax day! This book was a quick, informative read. Although dated (this version was an updated version, printed in 2009. Original was in 1996), it still held some good information, especially regarding investing, retirement funds, and taxes. I intend to go back to this book periodically as needed (when I start looking at mortgages and home ownership).

Some aspects of this book were not applicable to me (home ownership, and military benefits), but the majority was helpful and written to be understood easily. I also appreciate the large number of references it provides.
