I started reading this book after I had already stopped drinking, having decided to take a break for a month. Now, after reading it I'm not sure I'll start back up again. The book was a bit of an odd read but it makes a lot of sense and sure helped me cement my position... he also wrote a stop smoking book that gets excellent reviews.

I can see the buzz around this. The writting is straightforward. I picked this up out of curiosity and knowing someone who struggles with drinking and wanting to better educate myself but couldn't get myself to the end. Maybe cuz I'm not a drinker? Or maybe if I was reading it for me then it would have stuck? Who knows.

I was definitely attracted by the title, but it took 20 some chapters to read 16 rules that after all are not so easy and won’t be for many people. Did it worked? No sure I was ready to make an improvement in my relationship with alcohol before the book so it’s hard to tell. There are some good insights but I will dare to say the book shows “an easy way out” - Thats a big stretch of the truth.

Powerful book on breaking the societal norm of drinking and showing why you don't need to.
Highly recommended for those who want to quit drinking.

I picked this book because it's been recommended many times in SNSes, and James Clear also gives it a worthwhile mention in his book, 'Atomic Habits.'

By all means, this is a great book to break the habit of alcohol addiction. If you've read, 'This Naked Mind' and 'Kick the Drink Easily,' you'll most likely find similar ideas. The three books are, more or less, like two peas in a pod.

I support the author's ideas that AA is tough and does little to rehabilitate struggling alcoholics. I can't imagine the agony of consistent, unrelenting tracking: "Day xxx without drinking" - what a dreary way to live life. It's like being on the wagon on an unforgiving muddy slippery slope where falling off with a resounding thud is super easy. Carr (God rest his soul) suggests that killing the desire to drink in the first place is one's best bet. And he gives some pointers on how to do exactly that.

If you don't have any addictions, there's little to gain from this book as it's all about breaking the habit. If you are an alcoholic, it just might change your life.

This book was very informational, however it lacked the science behind how alcohol affects our bodies and minds. It continued to state that alcohol was bad but it didn’t get into how it actually can alter your brain chemistry, hormones, and didn’t talk about hangovers at all which is one of the main reasons I want to quit. It also said there is no such thing as physical withdrawals with this method which is a dumb thing to say. Overall it had a really positive message though about changing your mindset in order to effectively quit. We will see if it sticks!!! ;)

Not bad, not bad

This was a pretty good book, and I think I might even read another quit drinking book of his. Only thing I did not like was how this book basically said to ignore any physical symptoms you may experience in the days after quitting, and how withdrawal is an illusion. Absolutely not true. If you are a heavy drinker, or maybe you are not even a heavy drinker but you are a daily drinker, please do not quit without supervision in a clinic as it can be FATAL.
