Having always been a fan of Wonka, it occurred to me that I was a very, very bad man for never having read the sequel.

Was I slightly afraid? Maybe. I mean, the story was all kinds of perfect all by itself. Leaving in that great glass elevator was rather a perfect ending.

And when this book begins, exactly where the other left off, I WAS slightly disappointed. The whole SF aspect was... ahem. Fortunately, it got back to speed once we returned to the factory. I enjoyed the rest just fine. :)

Ah, greed. It never really changes. :)

I remember as a kid being quite disappointed by this book, having so thoroughly loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now I can see why I wasn't that thrilled with this second one. I wasn't into anything smacking of sci-fi or space travel as a kid. There were probably a few exceptions, but I mostly steered clear of those books.

This book is weird. It's almost two books merged into one. The first 92 pages or so is somewhat of a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for kids. It's that weird and off the wall, with the same kind of matter-of-fact absurdity. Willy Wonka could stand in for Zaphod Beeblebrox, Charlie would be Arthur Dent, and Grandmas Josephine and Georgina could co-star as Marvin the pessimistic robot. I don't know who would be Ford Prefect, though. Maybe Grandpa Joe?

The rest of the book after they crash back into the Chocolate Factory is a completely different story about pills Willy Wonka has invented that can add to or subtract from your age. It's all very clever, but it lacks the charm and magic of the first book. At the end when Dahl brings the two story lines back together, it seems like an afterthought, like an "oops, better tie everything together and end this thing."

There are some very funny moments in the book, most having to do with word play, but they seem to be written for grown-ups rather than for children. The humor and subtext is just too subtle for kids.

Esta lectura se me hizo hilarante y espeluznante a partes iguales. Pero no supera al primero, es bueno pero se ve opacado por la brillantez y el trasfondo de su antecesor..

La historia comienza al final del libro anterior, cuando Charlie, su familia y el Sr Wonka se dirigen a la fábrica con el ascensor, e inicia una aventura plagada de situaciones y circunstancias imposibles.

Mi principal problema con este libro es la manera en que se usó el tema espacial, soy muy cuidadosa de no leer este tipo de cosas en los libros porque no es un género en el que me sienta cómoda, no esperaba que este libro ese tipo de temática y no lo disfrute.

La parte que si disfruto es la parodia política, me hizo reír a carcajadas la manera en que tratan de resolver los problemas centrándose en pequeñeces sin importancia. Además la reflexión con el uso excesivo de medicamentos es un tema de gran importancia, la situación es algo absurda pero más disfrutable que el viaje espacial.



Narrativa 3/5
La narración es desde una perspectiva omnisciente, y tiene ese encanto para contar una historia plagada de episodios imposibles. Cada libro del autor tiene una enseñanza y una denuncia a la sociedad, por un lado es muy interesante la enseñanza sobre el uso excesivo de pastillas. Por otro lado, se me hizo muy hilarante la parodia de la forma de accionar de los políticos en un momento de tensión.

Mi primer comentario es que sin duda ese viaje en el ascensor, me causó mucho susto, Wonka es un personaje ingenioso, pero en esto me causó shock lo de bajar con el ascensor hacia la fábrica de chocolate.

Cuando imagino que esta lectura no puede ponerse más rara, sigue pasando, desde el cap 18 la trama da un giro si cabe más absurdo, Wonka saca unas pastillas rejuvenecedoras y pasa que los abuelos de Charlie se las reparten y se toma cuatro cada uno, Josephine queda como una bebé de meses, George un bebé de un año y Georgina desaparece porque era la de menor edad. Esto claramente es una crítica guiada a las personas que abusan de los medicamentos y los usan en exceso, pero me parece demasiado exagerado la historia de Georgiana. llega al punto de lo espeluznante con toda esa historia de menoslandia y la manera en que regresan a Georgiana.

Al final los abuelos lograron levantarse de la cama ya que recibieron una invitación de la casa blanca por su ayuda dada a los astronautas ya que los aliens casi se los comen.

Argumento 2/5

Con respecto a los giros argumentales hubo como dos que se me hicieron muy absurdos, el del viaje espacial y el del viaje a menoslandia, esa manera de demostrar la magia del ascensor de cristal en cada una de las escenas estuvo presente, pero aún así prefiero el primer libro sobre este. Otro giro que me asustó mucho fue el encuentro y enfrentamiento con los aliens carnívoros, por la manera tan fugaz en que aparecieron y las situaciones siguientes.

El primer giro argumental inesperado, luego de que Wonka hace pasar a su tripulación como unos marcianos y asustan al centro espacial y a los irónicos personajes de la casa blanca, se ven aterrorizados por extraterrestres que les dan una advertencia muy directa y les piden que se vayan del hotel espacial.

El autor nos presenta un montón de ambientes más que no tienen explicación alguna y del que solo se puede armar un bosquejo por las descripciones del autor, cómo por ejemplo menoslandia que tiene un ambiente tan oscuro y misterioso.

Personajes 4/5

Con respecto a los personajes principales no se nos da una faceta diferente, sino que se reafirma la idea plasmada en el primer libro.

Charlie es un niño dulce y optimista.

Willy Wonka se muestra igual, cabe destacar que su actuación ante las autoridades en el hotel espacial me partió de risa y muestra su lado más astuto e idealista.

Con respecto a los abuelos tiene su momento en una de las escenas más imposibles, y hacen una cosa verdaderamente ridícula.

Not as great as the first part, but still enjoyable. I have a feeling, I might add Roald Dahl to my 'to read everything I can get my hands on' list. The storytelling (as absurd as it gets) is really indulging. I know I would have loved this if I read it when I was a child, and well, I'm liking it as an adult as well. That speaks for itself.

Se me ha quedado un poquito más flojo que la primera parte. Y menos divertido. Aún así me he reído mucho con algunas de las escenas de los abuelos.

This book was the weirdest sequel I've ever read, if I'm being honest.

I truly expected some more crazy chocolate factory action, but involving a glass elevator. Welp, I hope you wanted Charlie, Willy and Grandpa Joe heading to space and a dumb American government, because that's whatcha got.

I will say that Roald Dahl is a marvelous writer and a lot of this book is amusing! He's got a unique style that made me laugh as an adult but also see how a child could love this book just as much. At the same time, this book wasn't as interesting to me. The big adventure was really cool and seemed totally "out of this world" (pun intended) but it didn't feel as fun as the first book. There's no way I would have been able to guess the ending to this book.

In that regards, that's probably why it makes such a fun kids book. Kids love adventure, fun and comedy so they'll really dig this book. As an adult, I'd rather read it my kids or reading buddies instead of enjoying it myself. I want to finish off this series and read more by Roald Dahl because of his pure genius.

Alas, it's still a classic and beautifully written. I'd highly recommend it as a children's novel or if you love a good classic book.

Ok, the recipe for Wonka-vite is darling and clever

All-in-all i did not enjoy this novelette as much as his others. I felt the pieces were slightly disjointed. Although Wonka's sarcastic comments are much appreciated, Grandma Georgina was not an enjoyable character. And not enough Charlie! The president was just ridiculous.
I'm interested in reading all of Dahl's pieces, so at least I got this one out of the way.

In this story we see what happens to the life of Charlie Bucket and his family after he has won the chocolate factory. We follow Charlie, Grampa and Willy Wonka on the adventures and journeys in the amazing sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It is a truly great childrens book as it helps to expend their imagination and engage in the book. It is a silly, fun, and funny book for children to enjoy and love. In my opinion it isn't as good as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory however it is still a really good story.

Not as enjoyable as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It contains a lot of politically incorrect dialogue. Because of this, I chose not to read it aloud to my students.

Let me read it and I won't be as picky as Veruca Salt!! I WANT TO READ IT!!!!
