Matilda is a childhood favourite of mine. When I saw it in my school library I couldn't resist rereading it!!

I was browsing through the relatively small section of English books, when my eyes landed on a certain row of books. Roald Dahl books. My eyes swept over the books, zeroing in on one particular book: Matilda.

For me, Matilda was a classroom filled with enthralled children, each one waiting to hear what was going to happen next. It was laughter and tears. It was the way my teacher lifted her glasses with the tip of her index finger and smiled at us before flipping to the next page.

It is the way my mom used to read to me. Every night she would tuck me in and lay down next to me. She'd open up a book and we'd go on an adventure together.

More often than not, I fell asleep after half an hour. I fell asleep dreaming of other worlds—of a world where a courageous, intelligent young girl such as Matilda outwitted tyrannical, oppressive figures like Trunchbull.

So when I was looking for a book to read, and my gaze landed on this one, I knew.

I knew I had to read it again. So I did.

5 stars for another Roald Dahl masterpiece! He adds a way of life, in the form of magic, to his characters. Many have mentioned to me that they read several of his books when they were children. I guess I am just one of those people that missed out reading him when I was younger however, I am extremely happy to discover him now and know that my grandchildren are reading his books also.
This story was made into a movie also and I can't wait to see it. I highly recommend reading Roald Dahl if you haven't already experienced this author. Enjoy!

The best!!! Thanks to Samra!!!! She brought back great memories....

This was a favorite of my daughters when she was around 8 or 9 years old.

Some books just make you smile --connect mothers and daughters reading together --
make us laugh - and remind us of simple pleasures.
This is 'that' type of book!

This Roald Dahl classic was first published in 1988 and holds a high ranking on the list of best children's literature. And the movie, directed and acted by Danny Devito, may even be better. These great characters that Dahl created, Matilda, her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wormwood, Miss Trunchbull, Miss Honey, were all brought to life in what is one of my favorite children's movies.

Roald Dahl really has a special story here. Growing up in a similar environment, with overbearing and abusive parents in an unhealthy environment, this book really hit home with me. It is, I believe, every child's fantasy to be able to overcome their hardships with their own unique abilities, and Matilda did just that. Beyond the Trunchbull, the other Wormwoods, and with the help of Miss Honey, this is a truly heartwarming story for all ages.

What I love about Roald Dahl is how subversive he is - even with a children's book. The villains in Matilda are boorish parents who do not recognise the gift in their child, and a sadistic headmistress who physically tortures her pupils. Such characters have featured in novels before, no doubt: but in a properly nuanced way, not in all their fairy tale ferocity and utter despicability as Dahl etches them. This book is a rebellious child's dream come true!

Matilda is a precocious child, much more intelligent than her parents (her crooked car-salesman father or her bingo-playing mother). She reads books while they watch TV, and is chastised for it. Her parents consider her useless; a view shared by her headmistress, the redoubtable Miss Trunchbull, who lift children up by their ears and swing them by their hair as punishment for imagined wrongs. In this weird universe, Matilda's only refuge is her class teacher Jennifer Honey. So things proceed in the typical surreal Dahl fashion until Matilda discovers her secret power... and the tables are turned...

This is a politically incorrect fairy tale in a modern setting, where the dark villains receive their comeuppance in the approved fashion. I loved It!

What's not to love about Matilda? Child genius who loves reading and learning, Terrible (verbally abusive) parents and an all kinds of abusive Headmistress. It sounds like it's going to be dismal, and it is sad - I really, really felt for little Matilda - but her attitude and outlook on life are fantastic and inspirational. And like all Dahl books, the nasty characters get their comeuppance. Love, love, love this book even more than I remembered.

Even though I like to think I have eclectic literary tastes, the reality is that I tend to gravitate toward the same authors over and over again. Hence, if one were to peruse my virtual GR bookshelves online as well as my hard copy bookshelves in my home, one would find that there are several authors that receive this privilege.

Interestingly, Roald Dahl was never one of my favorites; however, because I am a Dad, I read Dahl because my kids liked his work. (Later, I found out about his douche-baggy tendencies, but I always try to separate the work from the author. If only perfect people wrote books, there would be no books.)

Matilda is a magical, whimsical story about a gifted little girl with numerous challenges that she attempted to overcome. As usual, for a Dahl book, there is humor, silliness, magic, and pathos. I remember that I enjoyed reading this book to my kids when they were younger, and I enjoyed having this book read to me via audible.

My first review in 2017!
Matilda,my most beloved character and reason for my insatiable love for children's classics
I've read it quite countless times, listened to audio version while in most shitty mood, have adored it every time but never came up with a word to say on it.
Well, today I heard it in my way back to home, and i thought to make it reviewed at long last!
The exceptional Matilda is about a smart, easily infuriated little girl who is misunderstood by her parents and loathed by the school's headmistress. On the other hand her kind and generous teacher, Miss Honey, thinks she is a brilliant academic genius. Matilda has a number of excellent schemes in her head to teach her nasty parents and headmistress a lesson.
This description somewhat sounds like a paper summery(i think),but this is the way this is.
I am most inept in writing reviews of classics i guess hmm.

Well,The book, is definitely one of Roald Dahl’s best books. Such a heart-warming tale of a young girl, living a tough life, and finding a way to come out of it. Dahl takes a tough scenario, and uses it to make it one of the most enchanting stories ever. I’m quite sure that children living sad lives might feel a wee bit empowered reading about Matilda. Even other wise, it is a lovely tale. One that makes you smile and cheer for Matilda as she gets the better of the evil people around her.
