Even though I myself am a blond, I think I may be getting tired of seeing and reading about my own kind. This was a yard sale purchase for the purpose of vacation reading. Bushnell might be one of the writers for Sex in the City, but I wouldn't pay full price for this in a store.

It's just ok. There are plenty of chick-lit books out there that are better. Or maybe I'm just tired of reading stories about desperate women who wouldn't know what true romance looked like if it dropped to one knee in front of Tiffany's and proposed to them. There were definitely times where I felt some empathy for these women, but for the most part, I just thought they were proof that feminism has gotten way too confused with narcissism and entitlement.

The author whose name is synonymous with her novel "Sex and the City" weighs in again with four loosely linked tales: in "Four Blondes" she returns with a quartet of novellas on her favorite subject -- the mating habits of wealthy sex-, status-, and media-obsessed New Yorkers. These are people for whom a million or two does not make one rich, and who consider Louis Vuitton and Prada bare necessities.

The novel is broken up into 4 sections, each one dedicated to a different shade of blonde and the woman who the corresponding shade belongs to. The first woman, Janey (Nice `n Easy) has the best story in terms of being interesting and the fact that it could end in an unconventional way. However, by the end, I'm disappointed by the Hollywood ending that is meant to be empowering but is completely unrealistic.

Which brings me to the next point: suspend reality to enjoy this one as the second story; while it features an empowered and powerful woman, glorifies some behavior that is, well, not to be emulated at all. Winnie (Highlights) is mean, bitter and obsessive compulsive. So that gets you nice and welcoming for the third story, where, suspend reality please, Princess Cecilia (Platinum) comes in. Being able to connect with the neurotic, spoiled princess is a little difficult. lastly, an unnamed blonde journalist (Single Process) who trolls London looking for a man because she's positive that English men have got to be better than American ones.

These women need serious psychological help at the very least. The book goes absolutely nowhere with absolutely no plot. The bleak, non-sexy, self-absorbed world Bushnell attempts to glamourize reveals that not only do blondes not have fun, their roots are showing under the bleach.

This book doesn't even deserve one star. This has to be one of the worst books that I've ever read in my life. I only kept reading it in the ridiculous (and futile) hope that it surely would have to get better at some point. Surely the women who came up with the idea for Sex in the City couldn't possibly suck THAT bad as an author.

Well as it turns out, she can. Don't waste your time or anyone else's with this book. It's about 4 stupid women who make ridiculous choices and live lives consumed by selfishness and boredom.

I wouldn't even let my dog read this book.

The second story was easily the best. A stunning character portrait that reeled me in from the very beginning. The best unlikeable main characters I have ever read.

I watched and liked early Sex and the City seasons. I thought the shows creator might have a good story in her. Wrong! Super cheesy and boring.

This book is not good. It is divided into four sections about four women with barely any brains and their stories never connect. At first I felt like I was missing some big secret underlying message about society while I was reading it, but then I thought that it was just about four stupid rich women.

The writing style of the second section almost made me quit reading. Sentence length averages 6 words and every other sentence is in parentheses which I think was meant for humor but ended up being the final straw.

You can read this book in approximately 3 hours and be none the wiser. Also, the cover art is terrible. I should have known better.

Although I enjoyed the first story in this book, it just wasn't doing it for me enough to give it more than 2 stars.... and it was only because I liked the first story that I even gave this book more than one star...

I should have listened to other reader's reviews on this one... it was bad... I did try to get into it by reading ahead to the 3rd story after the 2nd one was boring me but I just couldn't get into it.... There was a major lack of a plot on all the stories. The characters had no depth and no personalities that I could relate to or agree with. All the women in these stories were very shallow..... If you see this book, skip it!

Despite the other reviews, I quite liked this book. I do wish each individual story had a clear ending (because I like knowing how each character ends up). I thought maybe at some point each of these women's stories would relate in a grand-scheme-sort-of-way but that wasn't the case.

For everyone bashing the author regarding themes of fatphobia, sexism, etc., I think its important to be mindful of when this book was written and where we were as a culture at that time. Its also fictional stories???? But people are offended nevertheless. If they watched back SATC I'm sure they'd lose their minds.

I had this book forever and a day on my bookshelf, postponing to read it. Finally took it with me while on holiday. Wished I just had stopped reading and threw it away. Honestly, why did I bother wasting my time to finish reading it while there are so many more literature jewels to offer? Because it was the only book I had in my hands when I was on the plane. The airline catalogue was the other readable thing at that time.
I should’ve known better for a book written by Bushnell. After all, I’ve read I SatC before: it’s unbelievable how such a worthless book could become one of my all time favorite tv series.

I kinda was hoping that four blondes would be better than SatC the book. But it’s even worse.

Here are the stories of four women from New York looking for... for what exactly? Honestly, apart from the woman in the last story, they are all mean, spoiled, bored and self-centered. I can’t empathise for their state of being. And the secondary characters were no better.

At first I thought it was going to be an easy snackable book, but it was tough to chew.

So disappointing...expected more from Candace Bushnell! I am a fan of her books usually, but this book with 4 stories was a waste of my time. Hard to understand story lines, no flow to the stories. I really enjoyed killing Monica, hope some of her other books are more like that one.
