Love all of John Saul's books. He focuses on teenagers, at least all the books of his that I've read were that way. I empathized with his lead characters because I always feel like an outsider, which his characters always wind up being. Saul mixes it all up with some Sci-fi to boot.

The build up to the conclusion was really scary. The conclsuion to this story itself however was a littlet bit disappointing. Overal the book was a good read. Sauls book are really good so far!

Our hero is a single mom with two kids. She takes over the care of her friends's son, who had been victims of a tragic incident; which then adds up to three kids! They move into an American wilderness style home up in the mountains, near a dark forest.
Then begins incidents of brutal killings by animals. The foster kid is also in some weird moods...

The plot comes and goes between a werewolf movie and a family drama. But the dark and isolated 'wilderness' atmosphere is carried out pretty well. Enjoyable reading, without an expectation of high literature.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg - Stephen King or John Saul? They both weave tales of terror! Actually SK was first by a few years, but their themes of normal families besieged by horror is very similar. JS always follows this formula whereas SK has a much broader scope of plot lines. But the suspense holds true for both.

Again, this loses a star for downright sickening happenings - just have to skim over the gory stuff. Olivia was by far the best character, lots of chutzpah!! A page turner I could barely put down.
