Las ganas de llorar que tengo, santo cielo. Qué libro desesperante, un sentimiento contante de inginación e impotencia. Sin dudas, una joya, totalmente indicado para volarte la cabeza de preguntas, dudas, reclamos y misterios sin resolver.

This is my second John Saul book, and the second John Saul book where I've been pleasantly surprised by the fact that they're not as bad as I thought they'd be. This book opens with the murder and SA of an 11 year old child, which made me very nervous about the content of the rest of the book, but it luckily comes up very little in the book itself and it's never treated voyeuristically, which occasionally happens with this.

I did side-eye, however, the man who beat his daughter so badly that she then suffered from life-long mental health issues and trauma so strong that it caused her to become mute, who was let off with a "oh you were drunk so it's okay ndb really the real victim here is you" sort of attitude.

Anyway, the book was fine. It was entertaining, though occasionally veered sharply in directions I was less than thrilled about. Overall, it was okay-ish.

Warning, this book is what some may classify as a slow burn. It did not bother my reading experience. It did have some super squeamish moments that made me super uncomfortable. It also had some bizarre shit going on with this one that you don't typically see in modern horror. That's why folks, I loved it!

It isn't exactly a horror book. It reminded me of The Silence of the lamb in the cold, dark atmosphere (even if the story is completely different). There are strong, weird/violent scenes but they are so well described that I didn't feel sick about it. Unlike other writers, J. Saul was not enjoying writing these scenes. It's just part of the story. The book is a solid thriller as well and I couldn't put it down. I also have to say that Suffer... is beautifully written in term of vocabulary.

I give 4 stars because I felt like the end missed some more details though it didn't leave me frustrated.
