Once I got near the last third of the book I could not put it down ... Even after I took nighttime cold medicine for the cough I was fighting (thankfully I've never been to hawaii.) I did think this book was going to be scary, like Friday the 13th scary, so I was fort of let down when it was more science fiction esque -- but it definitely had me thinking, speculating after each little clue was revealed.
This book was typical John Saul. It was good, and I was involved enough to keep reading, however it lacked the psycho-terror I have felt from some of his other books.
If you like John Saul, I'd say go ahead and read it. It's always best to judge based on your own reading experience.
What an intense story. It may have been extra scary as a mom of boys, I could feel the mothers fears for her son. It was cool that it took place in an area of Maui that I have been to, so I was able to picture it well in my mind as I was reading.
Once you get going, you don't want to stop. Great story, that is scarily enough feasible in the grand scheme of things. Bits and pieces could be figured out, but not the entire book. Kept me hooked until near the end. Great read.
A very interesting book that is a little different from a normal John Saul book. This book takes place mostly in Hawaii on Maui with rich descriptions, making me feel like I was back on the island. Of course there is the evil scientist/billionaire and some seemingly unrelated plot lines but it all comes together in to a satisfying conclusion.
Surprisingly disappointing as I had heard so much about this author. I DNF’d at around the halfway point as I wanted a horror to read, not a flakey whatever-this-is.
