I've read every single one of Cornwell's K. Scarpetta series, and they've gotten progressively worse. I used to love these books, they were so GOOD, but now it's like she's just writing anything to get another book out there. Sad, b/c these really were some of my favorites back when she first started writing them. I don't even know if I can bear to read another one, the characters have gotten so bitter and unpleasant.

Formulaic as Cornwell's books tend to be, it was however, a nice reprieve during a challenging time in my life, 2 category 5 hurricanes. It was something to take my mind off the destruction around me and I could immerse myself in this book. Very predictable Cornwell, not much else to say on this one.

Another book on tape that makes me feel like I'm cheating by not actuallt reading. But honestly I'm not sure if I could actually read a Cornwell book.
Cornwell has a great talent for creating seemingly independant story lines that eventually knit together in a natural and uncontrived way.
This story floats back and forth between Boston and Florida. I learned more about Morino this time and also about Lucy. We're still not given a lot of detail about Scarpetta and wesley's relationship but then maybe too much info on that would make the book feel more like a romance than the suspense book it's intended to be. A good read. I really enjoy the medical and police terminology.

Absolutely love this series, Kay Scarpetta, Benton, and Marino keep me reading. I love their dynamic and, as I've said before, even though these are set decades ago I am still finding them fascinating. Yes, liberties are taken, the above-mentioned never seem to get older, Kay Scarpetta is a one-woman crime-solving machine, but they are incredibly addictive.

On my quest to read all of Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series, this one was not one of my favorites. Too many twists and turns. At times I was completely lost as to who was speaking and what city are we in. Oh well. Now on to "Book Of The Dead"

I'm reading all Scarpetta books in order from the first one now in 2023/2024. The beginning of the series was very much a throw back in time to the beginning of the modern technology, AIDS, LGBTQ+ treatment and rights, and action was always intertwined with then current USA political affairs. This book (from 2007) is now much closer technologically (albeit not entirely) to the modern day, the characters are embracing the new ways of thinking, more current trends and it is interesting to follow these changes.
What is becoming quite obvious though is that Scarpetta series is like the "Taken" movies with Liam Neeson - everything always happens around Scarpetta. Someone is always out to get her or her closest family and friends. In fact, if I read the next book and there is no one trying to hurt her in some devious way (psychologically, spitefully or well - terminally...) I will be surprised.
I also find the getting into the mind of the psycho is now a standard in the series. Sometimes scary and always disturbing it shows me a darker side of humanity.
I just say though that I miss the "detecting" part here - using the technological advancement of science to catch the killer. I assume by 2007 the forensic crime series on TV were abundant and lost the feeling of novelty.

I thought there were too many story lines, which was very confusing for me. I still didn't get what did Hog have against those 2 women and little kids to do what he/she did to them. I'm not sure I'll read another Patricia book again anytime soon.
