I liked this more than A Million Little Pieces, perhaps because it wasn't so achingly raw. I know - I'm a Pollyanna - I'd much rather read about a friendship than about the depths to which one person can sink.

I laughed, I cried my heart broke. It was an amazing book! I went through so many emotions. Every time James cried I cried, every time he was laughing I was also. I didn't want the book to end. This has to be in the top five of my favorite books! James Frey has a great gift! I don’t care what people say he is a great writer!

Again, do not care where this is shelved in the library, amazing story. I love his style of writing. Would read more made up stories about his real life.

I rate this audiobook 3 stars but close to 4.
A sequel that is a must-read, and I recommend this book, but not nearly as much as Little Pieces.

*SPOILERs in this review.*

The reader of this audiobook was really outstanding. One of the best I've heard and I've heard a lot.

The story picks up at the end of the a million little pieces. It outlines extensively how blessed our hero, James, really is. He gets tons of help from friends, family and his not so mysterious benefactor mafia friend Leonard. What a life James lives! And what a life Leonard lives as well! Amazing. It is hard to feel sorry for them except for the suicide of Lilly. Crushing. But he doesn't really delve into the depth of his grief there. Not really. It is hard for me to relate then. The story about Leonard is a great one. Unfortunately, I actually guessed (wasn't sure though) some of the 'surprises' about him and the ending... sorry.

The back stories about James love life is a bit of a bore - I have to say it. Well-written but just not that compelling.

I LOVED the story about the Sons of Cholo and Cassius and was heartbroken at his demise.

My two favorite Leonard advice quotes?

The secret to success in Hollywood:
"Be Bold. Be FUCKING BOLD!"

What is the meaning of life?
"Anything you want it to be, my son."

---
RIP Leonard.

This one continues from where James left you in A Million Little Pieces. I may not want to comment on the validation of characters and incidents that are portrayed here, cause quite frankly i do not care and I just love the way James writes.

This is a testimony to the best friend of James from his rehab. It goes to show how commitment in relationships can be as or far greater when they are not bound by blood. I loved every bit of the book, cause i believed right through as this being the perception of truth from James point of view.

It filled me up quite a few times and just like a million little pieces i couldn't put this one down either till i finished it. I really hope James starts writing fiction and I am of the opinion he can be a great short story writer because of the way he portrays characters and can put journeys into episodes.

I finished this book with tears in my eyes...

This book is sad, so sad and real. Although, I enjoyed million little pieced way more but I can't deny that I enjoyed this one as well.

With James Frey it is never about the style... It is always about the courage, the courage to stand up naked in front of the world and tell a story of shame and failures.

Lots of love for those who suffer from addiction all over the world. You have my sympathy, you will always do!

Couldn't wait to find out what happened after reading A Million Little Pieces. Even after all the ridiculous Oprah hype, I was still emotionally attached to the characters, even though the storyline begs you to hate them. That's the beauty of literature I guess. I cried my way through the last few chapters and read the book during a weekend business trip.

I really wanted to hate this book. I was fully prepared to hate this book. After reading the entirety of A Million Little Pieces, taking it in as a memoir, and loving every minute of it, only to find out the majority of the story was sheer fiction, I had trust issues with James Frey. This time, though, I was prepared. I knew it was highly unlikely that this book would be all truth. I had absolutely no thoughts in my head that this is was in any way an account of Frey's life. I took the story in as fiction, and it was absolutely wonderful. It made me smile like a loon, it made me cry my eyes out (which isn't as easy as you might think), and I really enjoyed the story.

Frey's writing is unorthodox, and frantic. The sentences move in a stream of conciousness, as though they were the thoughts in his head, and this really hammers home the paranoia and the issues involved in being a recovering addict. It's all very raw, emotional, and captivating. The tragedy James goes through, and the despair that comes with it, is shown in great depth in just the words he uses. The way James narrates changes gradually over the course of the book, along with his feelings, and the changes in his life. The writing style grows and evolves with the narrator, and that's something that I find really remarkable.

What I loved most is that the story tells of the power of love and relations in the healing process. James had his friend Leonard to help him through the difficult times. Yes, I imagine having a very wealthy crime boss helping you out in times of need would be very beneficial, however Leonard was a wonderful character. He was full of love and wisdom, and I can't imagine anyone reading the book disliking him. The book seems to be more of a tribute to Leonard than anything else.

I'd encourage you all to read A Million Little Pieces before getting into this one. It will explain a lot about the place James is in at the beginning of the novel, and the relationships within the book. This isn't as painful as Pieces; it's filled with more hope, which is never a bad thing. I'd say pick it up for the writing style alone; it really is wonderful.

3.5⭐️, the writing is so interesting, and I don’t even mean the plot but the physical words written on the page and the grammar rules that aren’t followed add to the book and its minor craziness

oh my god what a book. i read a million little pieces and i loved it so i bought this think that i would love this as well and i was not wrong. What an amazing read, i really like the writing style that Frey uses and the way that he show emotions and makes you love the characters. i cried so hard at the end as well which doesn't happen unless i was emotionally invested in the characters which shows the talent that Frey has of involving the reader. Has to be one of my favorite books of the year.
