Follows the history of the Nation of Israel taken from Scripture and personalizes Israel as the bride, the wife and God as her husband, following each event in Israel's history and personifying it in a marriage relationship. Fascinating to read and realize what part of Scripture it comes from. Kay Arthur is a gifted author who knows her scripture and with such a creative mind, pulls this off in an amazing way. Follows history through the Spanish conquest etc and ends in 1967 when Israel becomes a nation.
Fascinating book. Read it years ago, one of those books that never leaves you.
This is a hard read for some but if you know how to read it and understand that it is an allegory then you are home free! I loved it. Sarah is the main character - Israel and she is Beloved. Kay does a wonderful job with this timeline and you will find yourself immersered in the story. I loved it...but I found myself asking how have I lived my life in my relationsip with God.....
I loved learning the history in a fictional format, especially after studying a prophetic book from the bible, Daniel. I was able to solidify my understanding of sequences of events.
The level of intricacy this book is written with is absolutely amazing. I read this so many, many years ago. My cover is a crimson colored jacket cover. Couldn't put the book down. Would love for it to be made into a movie.
Let me say that I am a huge Kay Arthur fan and her Bible study books have been part of my steady diet for the last nine years. But this attempt at a novel was a disappointment because the writing was surprisingly poor.
A historical fiction of sorts that brings you through Israel's journey, from it's beginning to it's future. Well written and a quick read. Beautiful personification. Touching.
