DNF Vermutlich kann man Einiges aus diesen Essays für sich mitnehmen.. aber ich bin mittlerweile einfach nur noch genervt, wie sehr Joan Didion in ihren Themen selbst innerhalb einzelner Essays springt. Und vor allem dieses endlose Namedropping von Personen, Orten und Ereignissen, die mir einfach nichts sagen.
Vielleicht versuche ich es irgendwann mit einem anderen ihrer Werke. Vielleicht war das einfach das falsche Buch für mich..

Mūsdienu latviešu lasītājam, iespējams, tuvāks krājums, lai gan joprojām ir savā vietā/laikā ļoti spēcīgi iesakņotas esejas. Vietām arī jūtami skarbāks piesitiens, kas kontrastē ar apslēpti ironisko novērotājas toni. Kopējais līmenis gan nemainīgi augsts

I am a sucker for a good essay collection and this did not disappoint.

In the White Album we follow Didion through the 60s and 70s, almost meandering through California. Didion is an exceptional writer and provokes emotions well. This book was a great insight as to (a privileged) Western life and Hollywood in the 60s.
My first Didion and I understand the love for her.
