One of the few nice things about my childhood were horse books like the Gypsy trilogy by Sharon Wagner. I liked the whole trilogy so much that when I found a used copy for sale on eBay, I nabbed it. You really do need to read the first two books in order to fully appreciate this one. For example, a filly that can lead other horses around is a bizarre mental image, but not when you've prepared for this by the first two books.
Strengths of this book include a horsey mystery, the return of a character from the first book and shows Native Americans in a good light. Unfortunately, the book gets a bit too Nancy Drew-ish.
All in all, it's a fun, light read. I recommend only reading a chapter a day in order to make the book more interesting. I am glad I got a replacement for the book I gave away when in my 20s. It's a shame this series did not go on longer.
This was one of my favorite trilogies when I was a kid. I’m 53 and this series brought back so many great memories. I think I wore my copies out when I had them back in the day. Finding the series on ThriftBooks was like finding a gold mine.
I wish the author was still alive so I could tell her how much these books stayed with me my whole life.
I had the Gypsy from Nowhere and Gypsy and Nimblefoot books from childhood in the 70’s. I happened to think of them and look it up here and found there was a 3rd book in the series later. So I got it from Amazon and enjoyed it. They were books I would read and re-read as a kid. I want to share them with my cousins girls.
I enjoyed the Gypsy series as a kid, and when I was able to pick up the set of three recently, I wondered if they would hold up. I’m happy to say that they have, even from an adult point of view. Some of the references are outdated (the series was written in the early 70s), but those were easy enough to ignore. They were quick reads, and it was time well spent.
