This is the worst written textbook i have ever encountered. I'm so sorry if your instructor is subjecting you to the torture that is this textbook. The authors walk around the point so many times before making it that you're too dizzy dehydrated and dejected to attempt comprehending anything that makes a modicum of sense.

I LOVED this book as a tag along for this class!!!! It was written so easily to understand and made the class just that much more fascinating!!! I may be a Psych major, but I swear that this has been one of the best books that was required along with the class readings!! The information was relevant, the material written to make it more interesting, and then had ways to further delve into the Personality Theories online!! What could be better than all that?! For a school book, not much else.

I read the 9th edition and found it fascinating. I really liked that they has a small biography for each theorist. It really helped me understand why they believed what they did.

I read this book because I needed to pass my board exam for psychometrician. I enjoyed reading this book for months because I always re-read some parts of the theories, especially the psychodynamics theory. The related researches are really informative and has given me ideas on future researches to conduct. Overall, this book has given me an in-depth understanding about the theories of personality.

For a textbook, this wasn't bad. If you're interested in the different personality theorists (Freud, Jung, Adler, etc.), this is a great book.

Very well written. However, the book concentrates on the "classical" personality psychology.
It is fairly weak on trait theories. Likewise, it pretty much leaves out all the more recent theories, and by recent I mean the last 30-40 year. That is, it completely leaves out Narrative theories, Personal Project Analysis and goal theories, various positive psychology theories (Character Stregnths etc.), the adaptive unconscious, various mindset theories etc. And of course HEXACO, but that is expected as the book was puplished in 2008.

Hence, if you are interested in the classical ideas on personality psychology (Psychodynamic, Humanistic/existential, Learning theories and, somewhat superficial, trait theories), this is an excellent book. However, don't let it be your only book on the subject, because then you will lose out on so many hugely interesting theories and subjects.

My review pertain to the 6th edition. However, while the 8th edition contains new info (evolutionary psychology), it still omits most modern personality psychology.

This was for my Personality Theory psych class, and I keep picking it up because it is SO GOOD! I love theories and philosophies about how the human being acts and think, and this has 15 (I think) psychologists from Freud to Rogers to May. It's fantastic and I love every bit of it :)

I would recommend it to anyone that wants to broaden their perspective on how to relate and understand others.

A good read. Although there are some concepts that the authors fail to explain well, I will still recommend this book to my colleagues. A good book that complements this is the one written by Schultz. Also, where is the theory of Henry Murray?

A thoughtful, researched and profound contribution is made by Dr. Feist in his "Theories of Personality" edition as he educates us on the art of evaluating personality theory as well as teaching us the various treatment approaches that aid us in helping with change and redirection. Dr. Feist is an artist at crafting an evaluation that forces the student to scrutinize his own personality theory so that he is able to broaden or narrow his approach to mental disorders and treatment as the client situation may require.
