Could not put this one down!

A very interesting concept for a book. It kept me interested throughout. In fact, this was a one sitting book for me. I spent all day reading it.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with the ending, but not enough to take too many stars away.

I went to Florida for a family event, and I wanted to take the time to test the "airport novel." These novels are usually written by John Grisham, Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, Dan Brown, etc etc, and are essentially designed to be disposable. I have always been fascinated by them, so I thought on this flight, I would try a Jimmy P.

Uh, it was bad! Like shockingly bad. The prose was middle school (not written for Middle Schoolers, but as if written by one), and the story had potential to be interesting, but fell into several cliches by the point I had stopped. This is not me being snooty about Patterson, I went into this hoping to enjoy a fast-paced thriller with invisible writing, but what I got instead was kinda insulting. I paid a whole dollar for this?!

I can't see myself giving Jimmy P another chance if I'm being honest. He has great commercials tho!

Niente appassiona di più dell'eterna lotta tra il Bene e il Male, soprattutto quando di mezzo ci sono il Vaticano e i preti. Ne era ben consapevole anche James Patterson, quando, nel lontano 1980, decise di scrivere un thriller per dare la sua interpretazione al tema della Natività, dell'attesa del Messia. Patterson si è chiesto sicuramente come avrebbero reagito la comunità cristiana e il mondo intero, ma anche cosa avrebbe comportato questo evento d'incredibile portata storica.
Il tema trattato da quel lontano 1980 è ancora attualissimo. Il romanzo, in questa nuova riedizione, è stato riadattato da Patterson, con l'aiuto e la consulenza della collega Maxine Paetro, per ristrutturare ed attualizzare la trama di questa storia. Infatti, sono proprio l'interesse, per il tema, e l'attualità, di questa storia, a farne un ottimo bestseller, di alto livello come siamo abituati a pretendere leggendo James Patterson. Lo stile narrativo è sempre il suo: avvincente, dalla prima all'ultima pagina.
Appare evidente sin dall'inizio che la vicenda avrà risvolti molto particolari e, leggendo un romanzo di Patterson, si è consapevoli di dover attendere colpi di scena a catena.
Il romanzo giunge ad investigare sulle rivelazioni di Fatima, in Portogallo, del 1917. I tre pastorelli hanno dato voce alle rivelazioni della donna, vestita di bianco, scesa da una nuvola. Tra i tanti messaggi, è rilevante, ai fini di questo libro, quello sull'avvento di un nuovo Messia. La parte inquietante del messaggio segreto sta nel fatto che lo si sarebbe dovuto riconoscere. Infatti, sembra proprio che due vergini daranno contemporaneamente alla luce due bambini. Il primo sarà il Salvatore, l’altro, il figlio dell'angelo caduto, la reincarnazione del Male.
Mentre l’intero pianeta è devastato da epidemie, carestie e siccità, al Vaticano giunge una notizia singolare: due adolescenti, prossime al parto, si dichiarano entrambe vergini. La prima a Boston, l’altra in un villaggio irlandese. Memore della Profezia di Fatima il papa affida a padre Nicholas Rosetti, la massima autorità in materia di miracoli, il compito di indagare sulla misteriosa vicenda, e, in punto di morte, gli rivela un inconfessabile segreto.
Per partecipare alle indagini, l’arcidiocesi di Boston, invece, decide di affiancare al religioso Anne Fitzgerald, una ex suora che lavora come investigatrice privata. In uno scenario apocalittico, gravato dallo scatenarsi di paure incontrollate, i due si lanciano in una corsa contro il tempo per scoprire la verità, ma Anne e padre Rosetti ancor non sanno quali demoni si troveranno personalmente ad affrontare.
È un soft thriller dai retroscena apocalittici molto interessanti, scritto con uno stile magistralmente avvincente. Un'ottima lettura d'intrattenimento, ricca di suspense, scritta dal miglior autore del genere.

I loved this book! Love love love ! Love the writing style, the plot, the twists the turns ! The ending made me go WHAT NOW - which made me flip aggressively to see if James was coming out with a second. I don’t want this story to end!!! LOVED. Had everything I could want.

First off, Happy 20th Anniversary to CRADLE AND ALL, first published in 2001! Secondly, this was a DARK ROLLER COASTER READ! I thoroughly enjoyed this for it had the Halloween feels to it! Heart-pounding and terrifying, CRADLE AND ALL is a book that you will remember for a long time! In Boston, seventeen-year old Kathleen is pregnant, but she swears she’s a virgin. In Ireland, another teenage girl, Colleen is pregnant also. Cities all around the world are suddenly overwhelmed with mysterious occurrences. But something awful is coming. As terrifying forces of light and dark begin to gather, the two girls find themselves at the center of the final battle for the very soul of humanity. Each of the girls must convince young detective, Anne, that they are the true mother of God…or the other Satan. A fast-paced page turner, this book was haunting and gripping from the start! For anyone who loves HORROR or THRILLERS, then you will love this book! Recommend highly!

Creepy and freaky. Not sure I can recommend reading this, yet I couldn’t put it down…must be my Catholic upbringing!

This was a weird but good book. It got a bit slow and boring in some parts but halfway through the book it stayed steady interesting.

I listed to this book on audio almost completely in one go and the thriller aspect to it is what kept me intrigued. But, I had been hoping for a more supernatural thriller than what I felt like what a religious thriller. Overall, not a bad book. If you like a thriller/mystery with a religious theme than you'll like this book. For me though, not my favorite.

Easy to read and entertaining even if it is a complete load of bollocks. Two pregnant virgins one with the possible savior and the other the son of the devil. Vatican troubleshooter Rosetti is sent to investigate. Anne an ex nun now a private investigator is employed to keep an eye on Kathleen one of the virgins. We switch from the USA and Ireland with Patterson think getting guns into Ireland is easy.

Its an odd story with the world suffering epidemics, famine and drought. The story ends on a clifftop with the devil baby apparently plunging to his death. We can only be thankful their is no sequel that I could find.

Do yourself a favor avoid this one. Stick with Cross.

Interesting…

I expect political intrigue and legal dramas with Patterson, with a touch of drama, but this was intensely dramatic. I’m not complaining, that made it an incredibly fast paced read, tbe intensity propelling the narrative along at break-neck speed. Overall, another satisfying read by author James Patterson!

Après un roman très original, j’étais ravie de découvrir une toute nouvelle histoire de James Patterson. Et encore une fois je dois dire que j’ai été surprise par l’histoire que l’auteur nous présente ici.

Colleen et Kathleen sont deux jeunes adolescentes extraordinaires, elles semblent toutes les deux enceintes et vierges comme Marie. Mais est-ce vraiment le cas ? Tous les spécialistes vont se pencher sur leur cas. Mais en plus de ça, nos héroïnes si parfaites en apparences vont devoir gérer un grand nombre de problèmes. Comme si ce n’était pas déjà assez difficile d’expliquer à tout le monde qu’elles sont réellement vierges sans que les gens les détestent ou les insultent. Entre ceux qui les pensent saintes et les autres qui les pensent diablesses, les deux jeunes filles vont en voir de toutes les couleurs.

Comme pour le premier livre que j’ai lu, l’auteur nous propose des chapitres très courts, ce qui permet de plonger facilement dans l’histoire et de le lire très rapidement. C’était un roman très intrigant et comme je le disais très différent et je dois dire que je ne m’attendais pas du tout à cette fin. Encore une découverte originale de l’auteur !
