A friend of mine was letting go of her physical books and kindly gifted me her whole collection by Naguib Mahfouz. She was sure I'd love his work... and she was absolutely right. Even though I've been slumping hard, I still blazed through this book.

I'd already read one of these stories a very long time ago, so accidentally discovering a collection of similar ones from an excellent writer made for an engrossing way to spend my time.

Nice! My first foray into Naguib Mahfouz and these were enlightening reads of the old Egypt.

Amazing Tales of Ancient Egypt!

These five short stories each approach the Ancient Egyptian culture from a different angle, and each one is lovely in its own way. I enjoyed reading about the lost lovers reunited, a pharaoh's loyal dog, the afterlife of an Ancient Egyptian man, and all the others. Mr. Mahfouz is extremely talented and these stories have interested me in his other works.

I loved this book. Its thought provoking and poetic with spiritual undertones. He won a Nobel prize in literature and i recommend it to anyone who likes beautiful stories of faith. It gave me a lot of creative inspiration.
