The book is about Junie B. Jones as she goes through first grade after leaving kindergarten. In this book she is trying to determine what is and isn't cheating, and she is trying to figure out is she is a cheater. This book can be used to teach students about cheating and the consequences of cheating on assignments that they are meant to do on their own.

2nd-3rd grade reading level
Contemporary realistic fiction
This book was not my favorite. It has some good life lessons that I would love my future students to know (aka, DONT CHEAT). However, I was not a fan of the character's attitudes throughout the story. I felt that some of the characters were whiny or bossy and that they didn't portray attitudes I would want my students to have towards me or their peers. I also didn't appreciate how some of the students in the story treated one another. Overall, I feel that the cons outweigh the pros, and I do not think I would want this book in my classroom due to the fact that I do not want my students to follow certain attitudes and actions of the characters within the story.

Read this to my 1st grader niece and she loved it. She learned a lot about honesty and integrity, and she laughed during the whole book! If you are reading this to a kiddo, make sure they understand that Junie B is not a super reliable narrator and that her grammar is that of a kid. I did a bunch of voices so mine knew :))

In this book Junie B. Jones was a Cheater pants. She was in First Grade and in room 1 in this book. Some of here friends were Herbert also none as Herb, Joes and Leonard also none as Lennie. May was her acquaintance. She forgot to do her homework over the weekend and saw May’s. That’s when she became a Cheater Pants. Then, Mr. Scary put them in groups to write an cinquain (Sin-Cane) poem. She wrote a poem with her 4 friends and presented it in front of the class. Finally, they had a spelling test and Junie B. forgot to study and forgot how to spell a word so Herb gave her the answer then they tattletaled on there selves and Mr. Scary appreciated them for that. He still gave them a 0 though.

I really enjoyed this book and if you read it you probably will too!!

"Junie B., First Grader: Cheater Pants" is the story about how the infamous Junie B. Jones learns her lesson about cheating in school. Junie forgot to do her homework over the weekend and gets caught copying her friends. On her next spelling test, she cheats but does not get in trouble. She feels so guilty she turns herself in. I love this book because it is a light way to introduce to young children that cheating is bad. Junie B. thinks as a first grader and we can see how herself along with other young students may not see her actions as being "wrong". I also love how in the book Junie B. tries to explain what the word "punishment" is. It is a sophisticated word for her, and I love how she provides the meaning after using it. It teaches students a valuable lesson and is entertaining. Barbra Park never fails to make me smile and laugh.
