Rereading all 4 books this summer (after 10+ years) and reading for the first time Sisterhood Everlasting.

Compared to the first book, this summer is about the girls overcoming difficult challenges and a lot of the relationship growth occurred between mothers and daughters, which was an interesting and relatable theme to explore.

- Bridget is looking for healing about her mom (plus finding herself again after last summer)
- Carmen is fighting the idea of her mom dating and finding happiness and love with someone
- Tibby is dealing with her mom's neglect and distantness (plus learning some lessons about what matters in people)
- Lena is feeling some separation from her mom who doesn't want to talk about one of her past relationships (plus dealing with her love and painful relationship with Kostos)

As always, the stories are woven together beautifully and the sequence of events are enrapturing. My heart warms to see the growth and happiness these characters experience and there were definitely some beautiful moments that moved me to tears (we are 2 for 2 on that score now!)

Review:
Even tho its been a few years since i last visited this book series, im still a big fan of it. This was only the 2nd book ive read in this series so far but i loved revisiting the girls as they went on new adventures in this Sequel to The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants.

The Characters are still so interesting and intriguing to read about. Lena and Tibby are still my favorites.

The Setting was so beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in the locations with the characters while reading, especially when the scenery was described.

Overall a Phenomenal Book 2 in this series about 4 best friends who share a pair of jeans!! Can't wait to read Book 3 very soon!!

Libby: This is the one where all of the girls realize their moms are real people: B pretends to be someone else in order to hang out with her estranged grandmother (dead mom's mom), Carmen is so insecure in herself that she breaks up her mom and the new bf (despite her dad getting remarried last book and her coming to terms with him allowed to move on), Tibby makes a mocking movie of her mother and shows it to an audience (including her mother with no warning!), and Lena learns that her mother had a love before her father and that she's not so different from her own.

Also, Lena's bf knocks up another girl back in Greece and marries her without telling Lena. Carmen's mom tries on the pants! And Bridget dyes her hair brown for some reason? Maybe to internally process that she was statutory raped last summer at age 15. It's not brought up again. But we do get a little bit of closure and mourning of sweet Bailey, in the form of one of Tibby's mediocre videos being presented as her final project to an audience.

I love the honesty in these books - they really are something special. They tackle a variety of issues and these four girls are some of the realest and relatable ones in young adult contemporary. And you want female friendships? CHECK CHECK CHECK, this series is overflowing with women holding up other women and it's just wonderful and was really ahead of it's time and I just love it soooo much. On to reread book 3!! :D

Wow, what a whirlwind, the second summer was just as exciting as the first but definitely more emotion-filled. The girls seem to hone in on their own personal journeys and the theme is about their mothers. It is a beautifully woven story that had me tearing up at some parts and it helped me to see different aspects of the girls’ personalities and strengths. At times it was a bit slow which can make the story drag out, but for the most part I really enjoyed myself. Can’t wait to read the third installment.

I didn't like this one as much as the first book and I'm not sure if that's because I was so familiar with the first book due to the movie, or what.

Carmen - I can relate to her the most, but her plot was kind of melodramatic this time in my opinion. One thing I really don't understand is her relationship with her step-brother. When did they get close?

Tibby - I was pretty disappointed in Tibby, and while it's realistic that she wouldn't have changed overnight after the events of book 1, I just was annoyed with her storyline 90% of the time.

Lena - I seriously cannot deal with the insta-love going on with her story. She was literally in love with someone who'd said all of 5 words to her.

Bridget - I loved Bridget's story the most in this book. It had the most meaning, but unfortunately, there are parts to her story that were so laughable to me that it undermined the depth.

I don't know, I just want more showing to back up all the telling. At least, in my experience I remain unconvinced of a lot of what the girls are going through. Carmen is the only character who I feel any connection with because she is always so emotionally charged. I feel like I really know why she feels how she does and see her raw reactions. There is so much potential in Tibby and Bridget's stories and while I'm told 'this is a sad thing' over and over, I'm not really seeing them reacting.

We spend so little time in each character's POV before it switches to the next girl that I feel like I'm only getting to know them on a surface level despite the very important topics the book is trying to get at. I listened to this on audio and the POV switches were terrible in that format because they ran together.

I do want to point out that there are a lot of dated attitudes in this series (lack of body positivity, and use of the 'r' word in casual insults are examples from this book), so this could be something some readers won't enjoy. But I grew up in the same years these characters did and the books are a product of that time period (early 2000s).

I've read this book 15 years ago, would've help me trough my teenage life and how to embrace adulthood with all of the pain and sorrow..., This books show you that it is ok to make mistake as long as you have the guts to admit it and try to correct it as best as u can...
I wish I could be more like bree, inspite of the lost she have been trough, she still have enough courage to open her heart and embrace what ever come on her way...

and lena is one lucky girls who has best friend sorrounded her when the love of her live taken away....

I think this was my favorite even though I have gotten to the rest of them. LOL I think this was more of the girls actually growing and knowing that things in life happen that we can’t change but maybe move from it but also it does help when you have very good friends that are always there for you.

Year Two, still in love with the four girls. They grow up and they are becoming powerful women, all together. I'm adoring the saga!

Amazing, fantastic, and beautiful. I ADORED The Second Summer of Sisterhood even more than I did The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In this book, Carmen, Tibby, Lena, and Bridget are separated once again during the summer, and there's more distance between them then there was last time. But this distance is important, because it allows the girls to discover more about both themselves and their mothers.

I really loved how this sequel focused on mother-daughter relationships (even for Bridget), because familial love is just as important as the friendship to me. As the girls grew up even more through their own self discovery, they learned a lot about their mothers, too. They realized just how much their moms cared for and loved them. Also, ALL of them struggled more with staying true to themselves and learning to love again, (Tibby romantically and familywise, Bridget familywise, Carmen familywise, and Lena romantically and familywise), which made me cry SO MANY TIMES.

I can't say more without spoiling and rambling and repeating myself even more, but Ann Brashares' beautifully woven story of happiness, love, self, and pain, really resonated with me. I cried when the girls cried. I cried even when they didn't. They learned so much about staying true to yourself, recognizing the love of mothers, and how to let go of things because you love them, and so did I. I can't wait to read the next book ;)

This was an interesting summer with the girls and the pants.

I won't say I loved every storyline, but overall, I enjoyed reading about this summer of change and disappointment. It was odd to see that Bridget, who is the hot mess of the group, was really the only one who had her act together. Her storyline was probably my favorite, because it was her working through her grief, learning more about her mother, and reconnecting with her grandmother. Brashares did something nice there at the end too.

I am looking forward to see what adventures they have in store for me in book three.
