I really loved the message. Loving yourself has a big impact on how others think of you. Molly never let anyone take away her joy. Molly's inner beauty shown so great that even the haters began to see things in a more positive light.

Summary: Molly Lou Melon is short and clumsy, but her grandma encourages her to stand tall and be proud of herself. Ronald Durkin picks on her and makes fun of her. He sees that she remains proud and eventually he changes how he acts. Ronald Durkin becomes kind and caring instead of mean and rude.

Evaluation: This story shows how it is important to be yourself no matter what others say. I like how the Molly Lou Melon persisted throughout the story, and how we see the antagonist transform. The illustrations were engaging with a lot of color and detail.

Teaching Idea: We would create a Venn diagram to compare and contrast Molly Lou Melon’s and Ronald Durkin’s character traits in the beginning of the story. We would discuss how some characters may change throughout the story. Then, we would come back and again compare and contrast the characters again at the end of the story. Students would also draw one of the characters to show their outer characteristics and write the inner characteristics on the shirt area of the character.

This sweet picture book has a terrific message to young readers about self-acceptance, especially in the face of bullies and those that would discourage us for not being like everyone else. Molly Lou Melon is smaller than others her age, and she doesn't look or sound the same, either. Her grandmother gave her great encouragement to smile, sing, and accept herself. But when she has to move to another town, she's faced with a bully that wants to throw shade on everything about her. Young readers will love how gracefully she deals with the situation and how well it turns out. This could start a lot of great discussions about how we welcome new people into our community and how we let our friends and neighbors know that they are accepted for who they are.

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is about a very short girl named Molly Lou Melon. She is bullied and teased by her peers for her size and her voice. Molly feels down because she is made fun of for her physical appearance but she does not make fun of others for being different. Molly's grandmother tells her to ignore the bullies and to "stand tall". Molly finally takes her grandmother's advice and learns to accept her difference.

This book is a great book to teach students about accepting their differences. The illustrations are are bright and colorful. The book shows a strong female character that is able to be empowered despite what others say.

This book is a great book for all ages. It can be used for teaching the power of words. The teacher can read this story to a class and have the students write down a quote or a saying that a family member says to them that cheers them up, makes them feel strong, or helps them in some way.

In this book, Molly Lu Melon has traits that many would consider being unfortunate. Molly is very short in size, bucked teeth, clumsy, etc. She would have her grandmother there for her as support and a reminder that one should embrace and put their qualities to good use. It is important for kids who are insecure about having someone there for them as support but what makes this book even better is that when Molly moves away, she no longer has her grandmother. Molly now doesn’t have her grandmother physically there, but Molly remembers whenever someone comments on her traits her grandmother’s wise words come to mind and there Molly is making sure she embraces and is proud of herself. This is a great example for kids because as they grow, they need to be able to depend on their self when it comes to support. We need to be our number, one supporter.

This book is a shining example of why children’s books are not just for children. Everyone needs this message. With a delivery as joyful as the illustrations and Molly Lou (and her wise grandmother) are, everyone is in for a delightful read—many times over.

Text-to-World
In my opinion, this book teaches self-confidence. In the reading was a little girl named Molly Lou Melon, who had features that she was not too fond of. However, her loving grandmother always taught her to love and appreciate herself, and in return, the people that surrounds you will love you for those same reasons. In hindsight, this book can reinsure children to always love themselves and don't worry about people negative comments and to just be you. One activity that I would consider, would be putting all the children's name in a bowl and have each kid pick a name. Then, express one thing that they like about that person.

This book is about a girl who has many attributes that are considered to be different from what we consider to be 'the norm', but they never bothered her. Her grandmother instilled a lot of confidence in her, and she always had a lot of love for herself. So when she moved to a new school, she was able to stand up to her bully. The boy that bullied her was also insecure, and I think that it's really valuable for children to see that represented in books. This book teaches children that it's ok to not have things about themselves that are just like everyone else, but that we should all embrace who we look on the outside. If we love ourselves, the world will love us too, and I think that's a great lesson to teach to students as soon as possible.

Summary:
Molly Lou Melon was the shortest girl in her grade, with buck teeth, a voice of a bullfrog and very fumble fingered, and always listened to her grandmother's wise words. She has to move to a new town and attend to a new school where she must try to embrace all her differences without her grandmother there.

Review:
A beautiful heartwarming and inspiring story about a little misfit girl, who teaches children to love themselves for who they are, and flaws and just differences to be embraced.

Other Books:
"The Sneetches" by Dr. Seuss
This book will help bridge the connection between the two books by touching on the topics of appearance and acceptance.

"Walk as proudly as you can and the world will look up to you."

Summary: In the story Molly Lou Melon has a lot of different things that set her apart from others, but her grandmother has always told her to be herself and people will love you for who you are. When Molly Lou Melon goes to a new school a bully tries to bring her down, but Moly Lou shows what it means to be a true friends and ends up befriending the bully.

Evaluation: This is one of my favorite books and I think it is so important for all students to read. It is very relatable and all students will be able to make connections with the main character and how they feel.

Teaching Idea: I would use this story to talk to my students during the first day of school about how we treat one another. I would talk to them about what things make them unique and how we are all different, but that's what makes everyone special. I would have the students draw a picture of one thing that they do that makes them unique and write a sentence about it.

This is a terrific book that encourages children to be proud of who they are and not let bullies tear them down. We love David Catrow's books, so I was excited to read this book with our girls. Our youngest was sure that we'd already read it, but I don't remember it. Perhaps she read it at school...

The narrative is fun to read aloud, but the message is even more important. I love that Molly Lou has a close relationship with her grandmother (who is a lot like Molly Lou), and that they maintain that closeness even when Molly Lou moves away. The illustrations are fantastic, as we've come to expect from Mr. Catrow, and Molly Lou is indeed larger than life, despite her diminutive size. We really enjoyed reading this book together.
