This book is a realistic fiction intended for children ages 7-10 years old. Danziger does a great job of talking to younger children through this work. This story is about a girl names Amber Brown and her best friend Justin Daniels. They have been best friends since preschool and now the are in the 3rd grade. They do everything together and in their eyes they are each others favorite and no one else compares. Unfortunately, Justin finds out that he ha to move and this changes the dynamic of their friendship. But with a talk with their loved ones and a better understanding of things even with Justin moving their friendship remains. I rated this book 5 stars. Danziger did a great job of showing the lives of third graders with the use a humor. The book has quirky images inside to go along with the text that further helps the readers to connect to the text. The book has lessons on friendship, family, and life changes. The book is written in first person as well so that adds to the connection that the reader may feel to the characters while reading. The story is jammed packed with lots of imagery and it is full of action that most 3rd graders really engage in. I love this book even as an adult! Full of laughs and lessons that are easy for a child to understand.

I loved the book and seeing how the friends work through their issues being very smart second graders.

This is a tender book about strong emotions in young children. It hit a little close to home as we read about Amber’s sadness and anger over her best friend moving. It was nice to see the parents of each kid supporting them through it all.
