I don't know why once in a year i crave for John Grisham may be because i started reading The Firm as first book, but couldn't complete due to some lame excuses or reasons. So, i picked The Client,

The Client will kick-start after 10 pages, you can predict the plot in 20 pages unless you don't read what is written on the back of book. By 30 pages you will find it very difficult to put down.

It is tale of a 11 year old boy Mark Sway who met a mob lawyer who was about to commit suicide. But before he commits suicide, he divulges information on where the body of the murdered Senator was hidden by his mob boss. Fearing reprisal by the mob or the FBI for lying, he hires a lawyer Reggie Love to get him out of this mess.

I have strong empathy for Reggie Love, i quite liked her character. It is typical John G style, first build the suspense, raise the adrenaline, then drag a bit, then dramatized it, then let the reader guess, then add some twist, then add more twists then reach the climax sometimes predictable sometimes highly unpredictable, add bit of humor here and there. So, all in all it has everything a reader expects from John Grisham.

If you are into thrillers or court rooms please give it try,

I just wished there was some more of courtroom hearing part, rest everything was fine.

I will sign-off with 3.5/5

Easy to read . I found it Shallow to ignore the details that should have worked from the beginning in an easier way around . Characters that are cool especially the starring kid hero but yet shallow . No bigger meanings or sth to be bothered about afterwards . Commercial and felt a lot like Hollywood.

This was just what I wanted, a quick read, some action and a good fast paced storyline. So what if the hero was a 10 year old boy, I enjoyed it! My attention was held throughout, which is my sign of a good read, and the main characters were all likeable. Mark and Reggie were loveable in their own ways, and it was fun seeing the youngster outsmart the thugs and the FBI. I highly recommend this book if you're after an easy read.

A story I followed breathlessly from page one until I remembered that I was supposed to figure out its plot and all that jazz. I forgot. I got sucked in. I don't remember the last time I was so engrossed. An eleven-year old kid against lawyers and FBI and mafia. And one very dead body hidden in a secret place. And everyone trying to find the body. And the kid and the killer the only ones who know where it's at. What's not to like? One of those books you want to swallow in one sitting.

Reading is a grind. Simple as that.

As amazing as this book was, it’s tough to get through a book sometimes. Whether it’s lack of time, lack of motivation, or even lack of interest, it’s tough.

Grisham knows how to write a thriller, and he did it again with this book. For once, it started out hot, and still burned all the way through.

The grind continues.

A story that spans six days.
An eleven-year-old boy who sometimes seems like a terrorist, and then cries like a child. He is a child, though.
A fifty-two-year-old lawyer who has been a lawyer for four years, and wants to do everything to save her client.
A body of a dead senator whose whereabouts were only known to Mark, after a lawyer committed suicide.
A prosecution who would go to any lengths to make the kid talk.
And a mafia who would also go to any lengths to make the kid not talk.
And then what ensues is an eleven-year-old bringing down the Mafia, along with his lawyer, only if they are not dead first.

I wish I could be one percent of what Mark is.

I bought this book in 1994, when I was 13 years old. It was one of my few 'grown up books', sitting alongside all the Judy Blume and Gordon Korman novels that I owned.

Last week, a friend of mine asked to borrow this title, so I took it off the old shelf, dusted it off, and thought: "well, it's been over 20 years since I've actually READ this- I'll take a peek at the story before I bring it to my buddy."

I then read the entire book in one sitting.

It's a 'popcorn book', IMO. It READS like a MOVIE. (It's the movie tie-in edition that I own, as well) This is NOT a 'deep' book, but a fun ride, you know? --Jen from Quebec :0)

this is the book that made me not read any more of his books. It's like he woke up one morning and said, I'm done. He left countless threads unraveled. He dropped ideas. the ending was unbelievable and abrupt. All in all what could have been an amazing book was such a disappointment that it made me avoid him because I was so angry he wasted my time.

This is one of my favorite John Grisham books. I realize this isn’t great literature. But sometimes you want a potato chip book. A bit mindless. Always enjoyable. A book that flows over you as you read it. This is the kind of book I want to read when I am stressed and life gets crazy. I won’t even bother going over plot points. There was a movie, a tv series, it’s been around forever. And it is exactly what I need.

Boring and FRUSTRATING!!!! The kid knows where the body is. JUST TELL THEM!!! Oh my god! And acting like the people who want to know where the body is are the 'bad guys'. Come on!!! I found this really hard to finish. Didn't like any of the characters. The Plot in frustrating. I'm so disappointed cos I really liked "Rainmaker". Why is one so good and the other so bad?
