Till the second last chapter of this book, I kept thinking "John Grisham's novels were always so cool. What happened to this one? I ,mean, it's okay but not what I expected from this author."

Turned out I was wrong. The characters are all very interesting. Especially Patrick/Danillo.And Eva/Miranda was awesome. I loved what she did in the end. This is definetly one of Grisham's best novels. A must-read.

I flew through this one, couldn’t put it down. I’m reading through Grisham’s book in chronological release order and this is the first book in that order not to be made into a movie. So I couldn’t remember the story very well from when I read it 20+ years ago. I really enjoyed the story, fast moving, smart, and a great little twist at the end. It was unique reading a book by him about law without much of a courtroom scene at all. But the story was fantastic and a big courtroom dramatic scene wasn’t really needed. Terrific, fun read.

He had me at The Firm. Since then, I devoured every book of his. I would excitedly wait for a new book to come out and would be first in line to buy one. But for some reason, I missed this book.

The protagonist is a disillusioned lawyer who went through some hoops to get himself seemingly entangled in a situation which as a reader I knew right away he would extract himself out of admirably. No surprise there.

In a typical Grisham manner, the story is engaging, fast-paced, and clever. Not necessarily believable but one can easily forgive the liberties Grisham took to get the readers hooked.

Although entertaining, it did not dazzle. I gave it 3 stars because the ending was contrived and predictable although I could tell that Grisham was going in for a shock of an ending. Sadly, I was not shocked. I was disappointed. There could have been a better ending. But what the heck, he still is a good storyteller.

I would continue to buy (and read) his new books, one of which is coming out in Kindle edition a couple of weeks from now. Keep them coming, Mr. Grisham.
