Grisham rămâne unul dintre autorii mei preferați dar acestui roman parca i-a lipsit ceva.

Another JG masterpiece....Sometimes tense, sometimes heartwarming, always a page turner. The setting is Washington D.C. (the district) with focus on an old and very large, prestegious D.C. law firm. One of the staff, young attorney Michael Brock, is onto the firm's misbehavior and does some digging on his own. His actions are not without potentially severe consequences as well. Michael, who will soon be going through his own divorce, seeks counsel from the local 'homeless' lawyer's office.
His life is about to change dramatically.

As usual, many twists and turns, ups and downs, and another incredible read.

Basically an expose on the plight of the homeless, but lots of light-hearted lawyer stuff as a high profile lawyer finds himself almost homeless himself, and engulfed in helping some homeless to sue his former high profile firm. It was fun.

3.5. I wouldn’t classify this as a thriller at all, much more of a courtroom/law drama. I wanted more explosiveness towards the end, but I did enjoy the story !

Interesting premise, a high priced lawyer becomes an advocate for the homeless after being held hostage by a man wronged by his firm. Interesting, decent paced story. My only complaint is the occasional tirade blaming the republicans for everything that led up to the homeless problem in D.C. (not wanting to get political, but seriously I'd say there's a lot of blame that can be laid all the way around for homelessness, not just on the doorstep of one political party or even one group of people. It's a bigger problem than that, with no quick easy fixes as we've seen again and again. OK...rant done).

I was happy to note a happier ending than the last Grisham book I've read. Solid characters, a mess of a problem with a fairly neat solution. There's no Perry Mason theatrics here, but the ending makes a lot of sense.

Don't you wish you had a Mordecai Green you could call if you ever got into trouble?

"Every day, and it's stupid public policy. Take a guy living on the streets, in and out of shelters, working somewhere for minimum wage, trying his best to step up and become self-sufficient. Then he gets arrested for sleeping under a bridge, but everybody's got to sleep somewhere. He's guilty because the city council, in its brilliance, has made it a crime to be homeless."

"He has to pay thirty bucks just to get out of jail, and another thirty for his fine. Sixty bucks out of a very shallow pocket. So the guy gets kicked down another notch. He's been arrested, humiliated, fined, punished, and he's supposed to see the error of his ways and go find a home."
