Americana

The book is well written of course and John Grisham is one of my favourite writers but… I hate to say it but I didn’t get this at all. I found the story to be pure sentimentality of a uniquely American type. I’m English so the mystique around American football escapes me but I do enjoy watching the games - it’s all the overblown theatrics that accompany the sport that I find tiresome. Anyway, the storyline is repetitive, the characters seemed somehow shallow and there was hardly any action action . I don’t think John Grisham could write a bad story if he tried but this one didn’t work for me.

And the stories kept coming , as they saw practice field ...

This book Bleachers represents nostalgia at its best , those glory days , those beaten days , some of those best days spent by Coach Rake's boys . (Spartans)

It's been 15 years since those days , Neely has come home to Messina to bury their coach Eddie Rake , the one who molded these Spartans .

Now as coach Rake's boys they sit in the bleachers waiting for the dimming field lights to signal his passing, they replay the old game , relieve the glory and the bad , meet again his teammates , his first love .
Confessions, truths and try to decide once and for all whether they love or hate Eddie Rake.

In my opinion this book is slow from the beggining ( might feel bored )and you might feel a light(little good) in the middle and by the end you will feel happy to choose the book.

I hope you like my review.

A fun little book that's easy to read.

I'm a slow reader yet still finished this within a few days.

Two key takeaways from a book about a legendary high school football team and their hard-nosed coach:

- Sometimes it's the people who are hardest on us who help us the most.

- Always push to make sure tomorrow is better than yesterday. The best part of life shouldn't be memories.

Light. Easy. Enjoyable. A nice read.
