The author, with established credibility, reveals the inner workings of Big Pharma and how corrupt the medical system has become.

In Canada these problems don't exist to the degree that they do in the U.S. Wish I had my former (spectacular and respected) health care system down here in the U.S. Maybe someday Canada will annex Idaho??? :-)

Great read for anyone interested in 'how we got to now', esp in light of living through seeing Rachel Walinski admit on tv that she considered the Pfizer press release as actual medical data to make public health decisions on, though she also admitted she didn't verify any of the supposed data that led Pfizer to make such a statement. It was a press release!
-facepalm moment-

I so wondered how this was all possible this huge week oiled machine that made big pharma this grand Savior to humanity yet at the same time is a criminal organization.... Welp now I see behind the curtain and understand how & why may doctors who enjoyed the benefits of big pharma 'education' were all in.
It's really important for everyone to understand - IT'S A BUSINESS this thing most of us call medicine.

Seriously this was an illuminating, easy to read, comprehensive though brief, important piece of literature.
Plus, it helps you to navigate and empower you to know what to ask your doctor in order to understand how deeply entrenched they are with big pharma or if they indeed are looking to do what's best for THE PERSON, THE PATIENT sitting in front of them.

'First, Do no harm' is an important ethical model to live by, esp for Doctor's, but sadly many in the medical field nowadays only seem to be worried about doing no harm to their currently plush financial situation from the kickbacks, incentives and consulting fees.

Big Pharma, Big Banks, Big Tech, Big Billionaires, and slimy politicians...good luck to humanity.
Look to Christ and the Saints as most humans will surely disappoint.

Goodreads by Dr. Vernon Coleman
Hmmm...What happened to Dr. Andrew Moulden and his book Every Vaccine Produces Harm?
May justice, freedom, and the Truth prevail!

A MUST READ!! Unlike most documentaries, expose's and the like, this book identifies the drug industries problems and make good suggestions about what to do about them.

This is such an important book that everyone who believes that the big pharmaceutical companies are working solely towards providing safe, efficacious medicines should read. I know a tiny amount of what goes on in Big Pharma from my own experience and as someone with an 'incurable' disease it makes me dispair that the prime motive of the company, though not necessarily its employees, is profit, profit, profit.

Because of this approach some of us will die before we should.

Great book! Several times it made me sick and sadly at the same times I wasn't surprised. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and loan it out to who ever wants to read it.
It is pretty dry at a lot of times, with a lot statistics and info about specific companies, but it's not that bad. You'll be glad you read it.

There have been many shocking pharmaceutical scandals, like the price hikes of EpiPens, over-prescribed opioids, and recalls of drugs known to have adverse effects. This book explains how big pharma can get away with such mercenary practices. The beginning of the book is a little dry with the use of a lot of scientific and financial terms to explain that big pharma companies would not be cutting into R&D if they lowered their prices. They are spending more on marketing than R&D, which can be cut if they weren't pushing their expensive drugs onto the public. If you take any medication, this book will lead you to question whether you were prescribed the appropriate drug or even if you should have been prescribed that drug at all. Big pharma companies have labeled natural conditions as diseases. Children are no longer rambunctious; they have ADHD. Women no longer go through menopause; they have a hormonal imbalance. People no longer have bad days; they have mild depression. And guess what the solution is - drugs.

Great book. Marcia Angell has a clear understanding of the leverage points for change in the unethical system erected by big pharma and politicians.

interesting facts:

most of the innovative drugs discovered each year are actually supported by NIH or other publicly funded research, meaning that big pharma did almost nothing in the discovery process. the price of drugs, therefore, is totally unrelated to the cost of discovery.

lots of incestuous relationships between Big Pharma + FDA, Congress, and doctors...

patent law is totally abused.

FDA, Congress, doctors, and even consumers contribute to the mess of the drug industry.
