One of the BEST leadership books on the market! I've read How to Win Friends and Influence People on average, once a year since graduating from high school, three times during high school and will continue once a year until I have no more years left. I only recently decided to try this book (among others of Carnegie's) and this will definitely be on my continual reading & re-reading schedule

The material was good that goes along with this philosophy. Some of it is getting dated but it is a good refresher. I have always found this material not only feels good to implement but creates a signature for you as a leader. This was worth the read if your new to the material or interested in leadership as a topic.

If you've read How to win friends and Influence people then you'll be familiar with most of the aspects of this book. However, it focuses more on the leadership mastery part. How you can become a leadership master and what are the practical ways you can use to achieve them is mentioned in this book. For me this book was a slow read probably because of my familiarity with the subject and its length. It follows the similar way in which most of the Dale Carnegie books are written wherein a concept or idea is being discussed and is explained further by giving practical examples of where this particular idea/concept was used. This is good because unlike other self help books which only talk about ideas and thoughts, but little to no attention is given to practical aspects, where one will be able to use these concepts and if someone has already used it what were the consequences. The only thing which I didn't like about this book was it's pacing and length. It becomes very slow and boring in between but by the time you are at the last few chapters you'll find it interesting especially in the last chapter where an overall summary is given. Action steps after every chapter is also very fascinating because it forces you to introspect and write down your thoughts. Overall a good book to read but if you've read how to win friends and Influence people then you can give it a pass.

The version I listened to of The Dale Carnegie Leadership Mastery Course, published in 2001, has not necessarily aged well, but still had some applicable lessons for business leaders.

On the positive side, this audio program encouraged me to examine my own leadership style, something I'd never considered before. Are you a innovative or organizational leader? Do you bring people together or drive them apart, intentionally or unintentionally? What is your risk tolerance and why?

In addition to introspection, this program asks you to plan for the future based on your strengths and take steps towards those dreams. What are your goals, personally, professionally and for your current company? What would you like to see happen to your company after you die?

It also examines a leader's entire life with the idea of success isn't success if you lose your family and important relationships while building your career or vice versa. Are you capable of taking time off? Do you devote time to those who are most important to you at home and at work?

Those are just a few of the positive aspects of this program. On the other end of the spectrum, the music between sections is hilariously dated, almost like motivational elevator music. And there seemed to be what amounted to hero-worship of Dale Carnegie slipped in between the lessons or at the end of sections.

For example, in the lesson on handling disasters and poor decisions as a leader, the program was discussing a CEO's almost universally hated idea of putting a thermometer on soda dispensers and having the price of a drink go up as the temperatures rose. The narrator closed the section with a statement like: "If Dale Carnegie had been at that meeting, he would have suggested the price of a drink go down as the temperatures went up." (Cue motivational elevator music.)

I don't want to dismiss Carnegie's extensive contributions to the realm of business and leadership skills, but he was human too. To assume he would have been able to turn around some spectacularly bad corporate decisions with just his mere presence struck me as a bit ridiculous.

In that same vein, some of the fable-like stories put into the lessons for emphasis felt heavy-handed, particularly one where a father expected too much of his son. It was a lesson about empathy but it was over the top.

As I said, I did learn some valuable skills from this audiobook and continue to ponder some of the lessons it presented. At the same time, I did have a few giggles at material that, I don't believe, was ever intended to be satirical. Recommended for those interested in building their leadership acumen, but prepare yourself for a few misses in the presentation.

I did not realize what this is when I downloaded it. I am not really sure what I expected it to be, but this is a 12 week program on implementing the Dale Carnegie philosophies on both winning friends and influencing people and stop worrying and start living.

with the audio book comes a digital version of your textbook for you to fill out. I plan on really listening to this with my textbook in hand and doing the exercises.

Carnegie's approach is for the Common Man not simply for the Highly Educated Executive. I think this is why I truly appreciate his writing and lessons.

I didn't think much about it. I tried to absorb the info in hopes that it would help me as a person.
It seems to me that the man knew his stuff and it would be well worth it to check this out and give it a try.

Common sense to how to lead others to greatness, other than the common misconception of just hard work and threats.

Read this out of interest in the author's journey and curiosity of what makes it a best seller. Starts off well. Nothing that a decent working professional would not know, but the book offer clarity of thought and some interesting points on group behaviour and behavourial tagging. However towards the end it becomes very anal (specially the topic on how to organize a conference/meeting).
