I like reading motivational books occasionally. It's like Proverbs
lite - rules for life. This book was well done with lots of lists,
then discussion of what is on the lists. There was a list of qualities
that show personal resiliance. Then some discussion on building
resiliance (adapting to adversity, bounding back):
1. make connections
2. avoid seeing crisis as unsurmountable problem
3. accept change as inevitable (learn how to play a bad hand)
4. move steadily toward goal (bring adversity to an end)
5. look for self discovery opportunities
6. keep things in perspective (don't overreact)
7. take care of yourself (laugh, rest, relationships)
A few more guidelines:
- Giving puts the universe in your debt.
- Grateful people are less fearful people.
- Get plenty of rest when you are in a stressful situation.
- Rekindle optimism to build courage.

I found the first half of this book inspiring and it has had a real impact on how I define my own success. I now want to be a class act over any other goal. I have down graded to four stars because the second half of the book is filled with platitudes and rehashed basic self help tips.

This book contains info that you would expect from any Dale Carnegie book. If you've read "How to Win Friends and Influence People" or "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living", then you won't find much here. (Some quotes are pulled directly from those books) Another thing to point out is that this isn't a Dale Carnegie book. They just slapped his name on it as this is part of their training series.

The book's theme is how to become a person of class, which it describes as someone with unique energy that makes people hard to forget. This will be repeated over and over throughout the book. They use basic principles and (some) dated examples to help drive this home. It is a short read and you can knock it out in a couple of days if you really want to read it. If you are pressed for time, then I'd suggest, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and skip this book.

n  "The bad news is, everyone looks great on paper and in interviews, but everyone also looks exactly the same. People have figured out how to present themselves as competent, qualified managers who won’t make waves and who won’t make mistakes—but nobody is able to say, “I’ve got ideas that are really new and different!"
---Make Yourself Unforgettable---

Not as good as How to Win Friends..., but I found some of the strategies presented in Make Yourself Unforgettable... were valuable (so long as I don't forget them!). The book is basically a hodgepodge collection of characteristics which can make you a "class act", and how being a class act will make you unforgettable.

Quick and easy read. Great lessons that everyone can benefit not just those in a leadership positions. Some can even be applied to relationships with kids and spouses.

Carnegie sets the gold standard for self improvement programs. Each section has practical and simple methods for changing or examining the chosen topic as well as real life examples of people who experienced them. I'm going to have to give this one another listen.

I'd recommend this for anyone who is looking to "class up their act" whether that is in business, personal life, or anywhere in-between.

All I can say according to this book that class is about being a good, honest, tenacious, and responsible person. Basically, being a classy person is being a good human, the one who is able and willing to help others and reaching his own goal without giving up.

Nevertheless, this book still gives the explanation and description about class act in a detail which we can easily depict in our daily live. There are even many things in this book that we didn't realize although those things happen frequently.

Then, there is also some discussions about passion and happiness, just like any other self-help books. Unfortunately, with what actually only few things to learn, this book is a bit thick and took not a short time to read (at least for me).

What I like the most is the part about stress management. There are a lot new things I discovered after reading that chapter. The suggestions are very implementable.

Overall, I think this book deserves three or four stars. But because it opens my eyes about some new things, I'll just give it 4 stars.

There's been much interest in Dale Carnegie at the library lately, and I saw this title from those folks and was intrigued. No new Dale Carnegie stuff here, but good reminders to be kind, passionate, to listen and to not judge, to pursue your dreams, to be a "class act". Good, old school stuff, and a good reminder about living well, although I don't think it comes close to its title. Interestingly, my organization has someone who seems to be all this, and it's lovely to see it in play.

I loved this book cover to cover! Such great information to show yourself the leader you want to be. Emotional control, patience, financial intelligence, and more. All are skills we simply need to acquire and hone. It's not a got-it-or-don't-situation. I would recommend this one an annual read. Once is simply not enough!
