it was a very well written story, but the ending was passe and kind of a let down compared to the rest of the story. but from a legal point of view the writing was great.

Ugh so boring, I didn’t even finish it. Hard to read as the author switches from past to present in one paragraph, it’s all over the place.

There is a similar past experience between the main court case that the main character (George Mason) is judging & what he did to a girl in the past. But just not worth a read as it’s too complicated.

Interesting book. There was a lot going on at first but it gave me good insight into how hard it must be to decide who is guilty and who isn't. There are so many factors that go into justice that a normal civilian doesn't think of. I enjoyed this book but I also didn't love it.

George Mason is a judge on the Court of Appeals, the news worthy case is 3 months past the statute of limitations. It involves the rape of a (at the time 15 year old) she attended a school party and was gang raped. She never reported it but now, 4 1/2 years later, the video tape of the incident has surfaced. This case brings up a memory of his college years. There was a young woman that attended a party in his dorm, and one of his classmates charged $10 each for his dorm mates to have sex with her. George participated and now he is torn about how to handle this case.

This is the second time that I've read this book and my opinion is the same - it is brilliant! The story was believable and fascinating, detailing all of the ethical and legal considerations a judge, George Mason, must make in deciding whether to affirm or deny a horrendous case which is under appeal. Here, the judge's personal history mirrors some of the aspect's of the case and may influence his decision. "Limitations" was extremely well written, presenting two legal perspectives with such clarity and conviction, that I agreed with both sides. Yet, the final decision was stunning in it's interpretation of the law. I highly recommend this book, and likely will read it a third time just to savour all of the nuances of the plot.

I enjoy legal thrillers, I do not enjoy books trying to rationalize drunk college males (can't call them men) gang raping unconscious women. Don't waste your time or slime your brain cells.

2.5 Wanting to take a break from Kindle and Audible, and not wanting to pick up a brick novel by Stephen King that would take me two weeks, I dusted off this cheap paperback. Rainy afternoon, quick read, okay.

I read this in about two days. I forgot that Turow is a legal MYSTERY writer! Had to find out whodunnit.

However, if I had to summarize the book: An aging judge suffers for his sins and repents.

This is why Turow is worth reading. His characters have souls. A sin dismissed in youth now magnifies unbearably. Conscience is real for Turow; right and wrong is real. He always does honor to this, despite a more popular and cynical perspective. Ultimately, the idea of being a judge--the very personal moral quandaries inherent in judging other men, for a job--is the centerpiece of the book.

I felt that Turow raises these moral questions more than he answers them, perhaps feeling unable to give solutions to such large questions satisfactorily. Or maybe he offers the reflection that in real life the literal reparations we can offer to those we have wronged often IS meager and insufficient, and we have to live with that sense of incapacity.

The book provides some interesting insights into legal ideas and the inner workings of appeal courts but I thinks it's pretty generous to call this a "thriller". I was always waiting for something to happen but then I finished the book disappointed.

It's been some time since I took in a Scott Turow novel - I may have to pursue more. A fairly nice twist to finding out who was making life tough for Kindle County Court of Appeals Judge, George Mason. Clearly tries to capture the legal ramifications of old sexual assault cases and statute of limitations - mostly, but not entirely, successfully.
