A window into the floating world from the first American geisha, this book is a stunning sociological study that reads very, very well. If you liked by Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha, this book must be your follow-up!

Dry at times. I thought it was going to be a story format of her time as a geisha not snippets of her time as a geisha tied in with long-winded explanations of geisha/Japanese customs. This would be good for someone with barely any knowledge on Geisha and Japanese customs. Since I've read many books on Geisha, I'm at the point where I just want to read stories about people's individual experiences as a geisha rather than being educated as a beginner to the topic. This was at times quite a boring read for me. Best parts was understanding how the profession has modernized over time
