This was the most painful memoir I have ever read. I truly commend this woman for sharing her story. Some of the things she went through were beyond nightmares. It makes me grateful for my life.

An interesting personal account of a Munchausen by Proxy survivor.

It's quite hard to review this book because if it is true, it is a horrific and true account of a mother ruining the childhood of her daughter and purposefully making her sick (and undergo unnessary medical procedures). In addition to the emotion and physical abuse that she suffers.

I say 'if it is true' because I really don't know. The book certainly felt realistic and includes what are purported to be Julie's medical notes, however, they don't really prove things one way or another. I did some googling after I finished the book to see what happened to the mother because Julie says at the end of the book that she is going to prosecute her. However, although she certainly made allegations and had this book published, it doesn't look like her mother has been convicted of any charges. I would rather a judge and jury had confirmed she was guilty before I make a decision myself.

Regardless of whether it is a true account, this book is an interesting representation of Munchausen by Proxy.

I picked this book up at the library yesterday afternoon and finished it in the same day. It was a fascinating and terrifying story that I didn't want to put down.

Julie Gregory, in a bold voice, tells the story of her life as a victim of Munchausen's syndrome by proxy. Much is written about the parents who perpetrate this particular type of abuse, but little is said about the children who experience it (many of whom die).

Gregory is obviously writing from the perspective of someone who comes to recognize what has happened to her -- of one who realizes that she is not, in fact, an ill person but a victim of horrible child abuse. Her first person account, coupled with reproductions of the childhood medical records she obtained, draw a picture of a family whose dysfunction centered on the mother and the dire actions she would take to obtain attention and approval at any cost.

Not to be missed by those who wish to understand this unfortunately common, but poorly understood, illness and the victims thereof.

I decided to DNF this book around 124 pages in which is around the halfway mark.
I wasn't feeling the book, I didn't like the way the author told her story and I found myself not interested in finding out her story. It's not that I don't care about her life, I just feel like I did not get enough of what I wanted to enjoy the memoir and for that reason I couldn't connect to it. I did not think I could get through another 150 pages of this so I decided to DNF it.

this was scary and horrible but very interesting. I kind of wanted to know more about Julie and her journey after learning about MBP. I felt like that part was too short. But otherwise I liked it

A powerful memoir about a young woman's messed childhood dealing with Munchausen by Proxy (MPB) at the hands of her mother. Prior to this book I had never heard of MPB, but after reading this sordid tell all, I definitely have a grasp for how horrible it is. Basically a parent or other figure convinces you that our sick and you need to go to doctor to doctor to find out what is wrong with you. Unnecessary tests, surgeries, and being forced to lie to doctors is just the tip of the ice berg. Her parents were also mean, abusive, belligerent, and uncaring. It's a horrifying book reminiscent of "A Child Called It." It's eye opening and I hope to God, that Julie Gregory is able to move on with her life for good. Soo much trauma, I can't even imagine.

This was another page turner. I simultaneously could not put it down while also wishing it would end due to all the trauma within the pages. I think this might be the most bizarre and terrifying recount of abuse I have read amongst my many memoirs.

READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!!
A very disturbing story about one child's experience growing up under the care of her mothers affliction with Munchauser by proxy. I applaud the author for speaking out and sharing her explicit upbringing. I had trouble reading the details, and can only imagine the authors realities.
