I used to love M Scott Peck, but this book turned me off to him and I've read very little of what he's written since. It talks about his vacation to GB and his search for stones - or giant rock formations that are man made. He relates each discovery to something about life. The whole thing was a little too much like a green pancake to me. Still, I imagine other people would love this sort of thing. For me, it brings all his books down in their ratings.

A rather smug and self-satisfied journey, with a dubious grasp of the history of place. Dr. Peck's ego got in the way through much of this and his "discovery" seemed more about what he already knew than a genuine travel experience.

I need to start by saying I have read several of Scott Peck's books and enjoyed them all - until now. This book is little more than a self-indulgent example of cognitive diarrhea. Peck opines on a number of topics with more than a hint of narcissistic entitlement. Absolute tripe.

Very long book about Scott's traipsing over the English and Scottish countryside looking for large stones that someone had dragged there thousands of years ago. Scotland is on my bucket list and his report makes me even more eager to visit Scotland one day.

He also talked a lot about his own life and faults (smoking, alcohol and drug use) and his many adulterous affairs on his wife, who stayed with him and raised his kids while he was off doing stuff. He says he doesn't have a good relationship with 2 of the 3 kids but is ok with that. I wish i could get his kids' point of view on his parenting. I found out on the web after that his long suffering wife finally did divorce him and he promptly married some other woman.

I have a hard time putting his faults and failings in perspective with the great advice on living he wrote about in the Road Less Travelled. I guess it's a case of 'do as i say & not as i do'.

I've had this book for years and it has been with me for so many moves, I felt obligated to read it. The premise of the book is interesting and I did enjoy parts of it. By the end, though, I was bored with it. It is in part a tedious reflection of one man's life, like reading his boring journal entry of whether or not he should retire. At its best, it dives into the history of Scotland and Wales, the possible historical significance of megalithic stones, and the story of their vacation. At its worst, it is repetitive and myopic.

Sorry not for me. Referred by a friend but not really my style.
