Absolutely fabulous. Couldn't stop reading the whole series after the first book. Dr. Peck transfers lots of experience and knowledge about human nature, and most importantly, he sees the good and the love behind it.

Love him. I have underlined this book all the way through, and will keep it on my shelf. I do not agree with him on everything, but, he is one of the few psychiatrists I am familiar with who addresses the spiritual dimension of humanity and its importance in our lives to reach our full potential.

It is easily one of the best books I have read for spiritual development. I really love how Scotty is able to use narratives that reflect personal experience both also show the science behind it. This book is a very nice read. It changes my mind about a lot of things. As someone who struggles with personality disorders, this book just really hits home on some things and it just helps a lot.

I absolutely loved the first of this trilogy of books, The Road less travelled. I felt the second one was too centred on religion and this third one felt too long. Especially the second part was very heavy. Nevertheless I still feel Scott Peck was probably one the most enlightened psychologist of the last century successfully intertwining psychology with spirituality.

This book changed my definition of love. Love is any action that aids another or oneself in spiritual growth. Spiritual growth is uncomfortable and challenging by definition. This book helped me build courage to show up for the personal growth that awaits me, and to push my students forward to face their personal growth with loving eyes.

Dr. Peck revisits past works and looks forward in growing human communities. Really enjoyed some parts about the journey of a soul, roughed through the rest. Occasionally judgmental, hasty conclusions. Didn't like that he mentions a patient was "an attractive woman", with the only physical description offered that she was at most a few pounds above average weight. Found it hard to embrace some of the religious dogma.

Serious note to myself - stop leaving books on the shelf for 30 years before reading them. This one is, not surprisingly, seriously out of date. But this is not my only problem. The blurb on the cover suggested that this book dealt with thinking independently and not following the crowd. Nowhere on the cover does it suggest that this book is strongly geared towards religion. We are told, firmly, that we are all religious, even if we don’t know it, or even want it. And, if we deny this calling we can only look forward to a life of failure and misery. But we should not despair too much as the religious path is also paved with hardship and misery. ‘Scotty’ is clearly in need of a psychiatrist as he believes that he knows ‘facts’ that nobody could, or should, know. I was determined to make it to the end, and did indeed manage it, but I have no idea what the intended message from this work was supposed to be. An experience to never be repeated.

If you like thinking about existential anxiety, you'll really enjoy this book...no sarcasm. I loved it.
