a book I bought years and years ago that I've carried around but never read. Hawke's first book is very good. A young actor in love in New York. It's much more original and raw than it sounds. A quick entertaining read.

This is one of my favorite books. Just read it. Don't judge it by it's author's name.

TLDR: I was looking for a book with a male POV and found it - authentic, sometimes hard to read and also quite beautiful.

This is one of those “hate the main character’s POV but still appreciate the writing” kind of books. I was really impressed with Ethan Hawke as a writer, and wonder how much of this story was fiction and how much was a glimpse of how he really thinks or used to think. It was especially painful to read how the narrator thinks about women, but considering his mental state, I have to believe that was the point.

Very nice start for Mr Hawke. Sincere and honest book with all these little details of how obsessive love can be. The dialogues are well written, a little touch of the 'Before' trilogy all over the pages. Not a bad choice at all.

I read this in one afternoon. It was awesome, just like Ash Wednesday.

I bought this the day it came out... just because of the author... the cutie pie greasy haired lead guy in Reality Bites.

I read this book twice within a month of having it. and have reread it multiple times since.

Its one of those cute, heartbreaking, poor guy sort of quick reads.... I wanted to be the girl that broke this kids heart. I wanted to be the girl he pined for. I wanted to be the girl that picked up the pieces and put him all back together again. The girl that he treated like shit so i could treat him like shit back. Its everything a relationship-gone-bad-gone-good-gone-bad should be.

If you havent read it, you really must.....

I really like Ethan Hawke and the way he writes this novel you can see every moment come alive before your eyes. It is very conversational and visual. I am excited to see the movie adaption that just came out

Interesting story of a boy and girl who compulsively get married, then their marriage spirals downward.

Tomorrow, I must go to the library to pick up six books
that I have placed on hold. I embarked on, "The Lust Lizard
of Melancholy Cove," by Christopher Moore, this morning.
Yesterday, I finished, "The Hottest State," by Ethan Hawke.
As, with his book, "Ash Wednesday," I found this novel to
be fascinating and fast, a real thriller, and page turner.

What can I say... Ethan Hawke!
This is probably my favorite book ever. I think it is just because Ethan Hawke is the author. Whenever I read a book, I always picture Ethan Hawke as the male lead. So of course, when I read this I pictured him as the main character. How devastated I was too see the movie, and find Ethan Hawke portray the father of William Harding! Man, I am getting old! I still will always picture Ethan as William, as well as Howard Roark, the male lead in my other favorite book, Ayn Rand's, The Fountain Head.

It has sentimental value, what can I say? The book me and hubs were both reading when we met. And when we came to question each other about reading tastes, we both bashfully announced that we were reading A TOTALLY AMAZING BOOK, which we were a bit shy to talk about.

Yeah, same book. This book.

It's still pretty amazing.
