Quite possibly one of my favorite books ever. Granted, I read it as a kid and so it has some sentimental value, so my opinion is biased, but I've reread it a million times and still enjoy it.

The idea that the characters in a book are but mere actors in a play, who still live after the book is closed is reminiscent of Toy Story, and holds just as much imagination. Plus, the main character is independent thinking and adventurous, which I love to see in heroines.

A great read overall.

This is one such great good thing! I feel like I am included in the story as I read it initially. Whenever there is this "Book Open!" I feel like I can see the behind the scenes, how the chracters set up for me, as their reader. The start of the story is slow-burning and easy to visualize, but the next scenes required more thought-out imagination! A standing ovation to the author. How is he able to imagine the out-of-this-world world-building and ramdom scenes without losing the plot? This book is a beautifully written novel that offers adventure, humor, and intense reflection on the art of storytelling. Its original concept and genuine delivery make it a memorable read, especially for book lovers who question what happens to them (characters) when they're left on the shelf. If you enjoy novels that play around with metafiction and explore the magic of stories, this is a must-read book.
