How many Americans have read the Fleming Bond originals?
These books are true period pieces, when sexism, cigarettes and alcohol were entirely PC. The technology of spying is absolutely laughable by today's standards. The Cold War struggles are delightfully antiquated.
The original Bond character is a delight of insouciance, smart-assery and refusal to color within the lines. The villains are smarmy, smart and sophisticated--a perfect foil to Bond. he only face I saw as Bond was Connery's, not his pallid successors.
PS Where did Fleming get the name "James Bond"? Google it, and you'll be surprised!

Interesting style. You need to read it with an open mind because we have seen so many movies. We need to put these novels in their time period, the 60's.

It's 007 and damn it's so close to the films!! From Russia With Love only changes the end, Dr No is a bit different and Goldfinger is excellent!!! Bond is a bit different from the man that we see in the movies and that's cool!!!!
