Max Lucado is an excellent writer. This book is based on the Lord’s Prayer and how you can put every day life into the great house of God if you will. Read it, it’s great.
I’ve read this book multiple times and it’s just such a great picture of the Gospel, the God of the Universe and how much he loves us. I will continue to return to it every few years.
My Review I’m so blessed to have the opportunity to review Max Lucado books, this one is yet another winner by my favorite nonfiction author! Like many Christians, I have the Lord’s Prayer memorized but Lucado’s book opened my eyes to even more ways to consider this prayer in my walk with Christ. He starts out with a simple description of a home inspection of our spiritual home-thoughts and truths and convictions and hopes. God’s house=God’s presence. Some of the first scriptures Lucado uses are John 14:23, Acts 17:28, and Matthew 28:20 (Lucado uses different versions of the scriptures but most of them were from The Message). He then uses each chapter to describe different parts of the house and how they are used in the Lord’s Prayer: the living room, the foundation, the observatory, the chapel, the throne, the study, the furnace, the kitchen, the roof, the hallway, the walls and so on.
Max vividly describes what it feels like to be in God’s house in a personal way-it’s magical! He also uses his wife as an example in getting to know God, BRILLIANTLY written! Max explains using scripture how God is…………… the shepherd who guides the Lord who provides the voice who brings peace in the storm the physician who heals the sick and the banner that guides the soldier.
Two characters Lucado describes in detail are Job and Esther (many others are mentioned as points of reference, but those two stood out the most for me). Just when you think you KNOW the Bible cover to cover, Max puts in a new perspective that helps us see the connection to problems our ancestors faced compared to today’s problems.
I’m eager to know God better, more intimately, and struggling to do so in different areas of my life. Books like this are written for that exact purpose, teaching us how to rely on God’s strength and on God’s love instead of our performance. Lucado’s insight and anecdotes are so well stated with humor but also profound. Lucado himself is learning the same lesson and writes with conviction as well as encouragement. I consider this book a smooth read and one that can be read over and over to better understand some of these concepts in a relational way in order to grasp a closeness with Christ instead of daily struggling in stress and defeat. As always, reading Lucado’s book feels like a conversation, not a sermon and my spirit is so well fed that I feel like soaring afterwards! I never think the same way after reading his books and this one is easily my favorite one. I highly recommend this book for anyone needing a practical yet enjoyable guide that can help in seeking God, also includes a study guide. I also learned that even Satan serves God, what a revelation that is :) Please visit Max Lucado at his website to learn more about his books and ministry, http://maxlucado.com/
I want to thank BookSneeze.com and Thomas Nelson for the review copy they provided. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own.
In groups of people who want to know about how to follow Jesus. Of course the Bible is one way. Many people who talk about Jesus and what he has done, they come together with to walk about Jesus and understand what the Bible says about Jesus.
The chapters have labels that sound differently than we find in many books. For example, there is “The Great House of God, The Living Room, The Foundation. Then there comes “The Observatory” and the “The Furnace.” A good one.
Many “buddies” who come to the church we are in have a time every week (almost ally week) at Tuesday 7 am to talk about Jesus.
The Great House of God would be good for us. The last chapter with Jesus comes out “A Home for Your Heart.
I’m telling that the guys who come together (on Tuesday mornings), we have something to read.
(I've only read a small part so far) I'm loving this book, though I'm reading it extremely slowly because there's just so much good stuff to savour. Often I only manage a page or even only a paragraph.
A wonderful, devotional book using the Lord's Prayer as an outline to help the reader understand and apreciate what the great house of God really is and how to live within it. Max Lucado always brings deep and meaningful teachings, and this book is no exceptional. Loved it!
