Got it because it look cool/interesting/etc. But the story itself didn't pull me in. I was bored from the start. I flipped through and looked at the art.

kind of a fun novelty, but not altogether necessary or meaningful.

I thought this was fun, even though I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The stories are written and illustrated like vintage comics, so you'll get a lot of puns and KA-POW! type sequences that are entertaining. I was expecting something more... I dunno?... just more? Brilliant, maybe? from Chabon, but this book was full all-in-all. My favorite part is actually the cover of the book. The front cover is gorgeous simplicity and the back is fantastic. I wish all those gimmicky items for sale really existed! :)

Michael Chabon is one of my favorite authors, but I don't really have much interest in comic books or graphic novels. This is the only book of his besides Kavalier and Clay that I just couldn't get interested in. It's not the fault of the book, I just don't care for the genre

I found this book in the sale pile at a bookstore. I never expected that I would actually like it.

It's more or less the history about The Escapist comics, the characters' development and the related characters. I am not a superhero comic fan, but for this, I made a small exception.

The art is amazing, the plot of each comic is good and the history...well, I wasn't that much a fan of it, but it is still appreciated.

Amazing "spinoff" of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. Loved it!

A fictional comic collection about a fictional company that accompanies Chabon's 'The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay' - Interesting stuff that was made even more so when I found out it was meant to be an homage/recreation of the comics from a past era and wasn't an 'actual' compilation.

There is some good artwork and successfully dated writing.

A fun & enthralling companion to Michael Chabon's excellent novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. This volume of Escapist comics purports to be an anthology of the "real" Escapist (and Luna Moth) comics over the decades, placing the fictional series in real comic and superhero history. The excerpts are drawn and written in a variety of styles (one of my favorites is the audacious bit of Escapist manga -- the Golden Chi? How can you not love that?), and accompanied by scholarly essays and introductions to the legacy of Joe Kavalier and Sammy Clay.

This wouldn't be particularly interesting for anyone who hasn't already read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, but for those who have, I highly recommend it. And for those who haven't, go read Kavalier and Clay. It's great. Then come back and enjoy the Escapist.

From the amusing cover art work by Chris Ware, to the quirky histories and back stories slotted in between the different adventures. This is a nice collection of stories from a fairly varied set of artists and writers. Howard Chaykin, Michal Chabon, Kyle Barker, Mike Baron, Dan Brereton to mention but a few, all weigh in with something in this spin off from the highly successful book.

Based on Chabon’s “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” often lifting directly from it, it was almost inevitable that a graphic spin off would emerge from the Pulitzer Prize winner, and so here it is. This is not just a one dimensional tribute to the Golden Age, but stretches it’s talents to many other forms, including manga and to almost, straight ahead cartoon strip. This is an enjoyable collection of many different styles. It’s funny, smart and well-drawn, at times with some stunning colour, and even a gallery at the end.
