I had no idea there was a sequel to Harriet the Spy! I enjoyed it very much. I love how seriously the author takes children's emotions. The conceits of the upper-class are absurd and entertaining.
A favorite as a kiddo, but as a grown woman, WOW. Just WOW. I was laughing out loud at the sophisticated, understated humor and wry commentary I didn't/couldn't appreciate then.
Harriet is one of the most annoying characters I’ve encountered. She is a critical and unempathetic friend, who manages to misinterpret most of what is going on around her. Spare yourself and your kids from this one.
Thoroughly unlikeable Harriet, interesting Mouse, fat is the pejorative of choice, and a lackluster “mystery” whose resolution leaves much to be desired. It’s an interesting moment in time (early 1960s), and all too brief moments of thought. (Came to the book through Lemony Snicket.)
This book focuses less on Harriet and more in Beth Ellen. The ending is somewhat ambiguous. There are some comments thrown out about it religion which, though they do not offend me, I do not consider true. But the writer does a good job of showing the formation of this girl and what happens, etc.
