You can get now his "system" from his blog - there wasn't much to it I must say.

A brilliant guide to self-productivity and time management. This book is written in a very clear and concise manner and reads very well. Author knows his subject and it is visible that he uses the methods and tricks he describes. Time is a fixed resource, so the real secret of time management is to fit in the work so it gets done efficiently and in manageable chunks. Although, some of the methods and problems described are a bit outdated now and/or applicable only for people who deal a lot with paper items, overall the book is a solid writing aimed to make life of the reader much easier and more structured.

Great methods, worth reading. He's updated his recommended method on his website (markforster.net), but the principles in the book still apply and his new method is really a variation on this one. Brilliant stuff that will help you finally break down resistance to the things you avoid or put off. Big help to me!

- имейте конечную цель для выполнения своих действия;
- делать дела по очереди;
- работать понемногу и часто;
- выстраивать границы в реализации своих планов;
- уменьшать количество случайностей;
- обязательство важнее интереса.

Вещи, казалось бы, элементарные. Но это теперь та книга, к которой я возвращаюсь, если понимаю, что время течет сквозь пальцы.

Act on what you can do today, and plan today what you will work on tomorrow

A great take on time management.

Each day write a will do list and do not put anything else on that list except genuine emergencies. Everything else will get done tomorrow.

Do not constantly respond to emails and batch checking and responses.

Have a daily checklist to tidy the desk, update expense claims, tax movements, process inbox paperwork etc.. and write tomorrows will do list.

The author talks about doing tasks in reverse urgency - except for rare genuine emergencies. Work on important tasks now that done need to be done for some time - long before they become urgent. Do not fall in to the trap and adrenaline rush of constantly working on tasks that are urgent that could have been done without the last minute panic.

QuickStart Guide:

I write out a will-do list for each day.

I aim to complete my will-do list every day.

I write down every additional thing I do which isn’t on my list.

If I do not succeed in completing my will-do list more than three days in a row, I carry out an audit of my work to see whether I have too much work, am working inefficiently or am not leaving enough time.

I save up emails and deal with them in one batch the following day.

I save up paper and deal with it in one batch the following day.

I save up voicemails and deal with them in one batch the following day.

I save up tasks and deal with them in one batch the following day.

I have a task diary in which I collect tasks for action the following day or later.

The first item on my will-do list every day is my current initiative.

I have a list of current initiatives arranged in the order in which I am going to deal with them.

If there are items on the list that you haven’t ticked, then these are where you should direct your attention.

I liked this. There were sections I don't really agree with at all, but there were some good insights.

Nothing like parenthood to have you running toward time-management self-help books! I actually got something out of this one that has helped my work-life time management. It hasn't been adaptable to my home life, but I'll take what I can get. The theories in this book that most new tasks can be put off until tomorrow (and only tomorrow, mind you, this isn't a book about perpetually putting off work) has been quite freeing. I had a huge inbox of email and on day one, dumped it all in a folder called "backlog". Then any new email that came in and was not critical went in a folder called "Tomorrow". Every morning, I'd plan out my day to complete anything in the Tomorrow folder and spend at least 15 mins on clearing my Backlog folder. In less than 2 weeks, my Backlog folder was empty. I've experienced a great reduction in stress with this method because my day is completely planned out every morning. No randomness, no distractions. Everything that comes in gets dumped in Tomorrow to be completed the next day.

The tips in this book have not "fixed" my life but have been helpful enough to give me a little relief from work stress. Recommended for anyone who has a bloated inbox and a lot of random requests in their work.
