A very powerful book. My mentor recommended this book to me to realize my big dream. This book did not disappoint. It also lays down a road map and a list of universal obstacles that come with the pursuit of following your dream. If you're ready to be more than you are now, read this book.

I am not religious, but this book spoke to me because it reinforced what I intuitively believed all my life: That I was given certain gifts, skills and interests in this life, and that I was meant to use them. I know this, but still, as the book explains, there are hang-ups and bang-ups that happen that prevent people from going after the goals in their hearts. For me, it is the feeling that "It's too late" or "I'm not good enough" as well as the "Boarder Bullies" and also fear of leaving the "Familiar/Comfort Zone" which the book spoke of. So much of this book rang true for me that I found it very motivational for my situation. I could especially relate a lot to the parable that starts the book.

On a more critical note: The Bible/God is mostly used here as evidence/proof to back up Wilkinson's arguments. This was fine and dandy until around page 120, where the author started to lose me as it became too religious based and 'preachy' for me, compared to the start of the book. (Also at one point the author implies that a boy who he witnessed had died on the street of starvation in Africa was most likely the result of someone who did not follow their Dreams.)
Um...

What? !

Probably all the content before that I would recommend, and for those sections I am very glad to have found this book and I hope it continues to motivate me in the direction of my dreams.

I really like this book. I loved the simple story about Ordinary. I have a feeling I like it as much as I do, because it just seemed to come along at a crossroads in my life. I want to reread and take my own notes and I don't want to forget the message that this book imparts.

This book is divided into two parts: One parable documenting the life of Ordinary who tries to escape from Familiar, leaving his comfortable life behind to pursue his dream; and standard non-fiction, self-help call to action for us to pursue our dreams. Of the two sections, I preferred the latter, finding the parable to be a little heavy-handed compared to the artistry of the allegory of The Alchemist. Saying that I still really loved this book, and it is because of the second part and the way it refers back to the parable in the first part. And this book gave me something that The Alchemist didn't: one key step for dreams. At the moment when we feel we have reached our personal dream, say our personal legend, we must give it to God. Only when we do, can our dreams grow to a scale that will align with God's great plan to prosper us. And only then, will we quench our seemingly unquenchable thirst.

Worth reading! Perhaps, read this first, and then read The Alchemist right after.

This was a thought provoking and fun book that inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and to move forward with excitement and trust in God to walk with me every step, as He always has!

I don't love the writing style of this book exactly, and I usually stay away from self-help type books, but I do like the ideas in this one. It's an allegory about "Ordinary" in the land of "Familiar" and and how Ordinary sets out to follow his big dream. This will make a good teen discussion book. . .

I started reading this book after a medical resident recommended it to me because i told her that i wanted to read a certain amount of book this year, i always ask people i meet recommendation for a good book.
She studied medicine in Cuba but due to life difficulties, had to move to Florida and had to work in other field away from medicine, she was able to restart her career in medicine after reading this book and decided that her big dream was to help people as a physician and now she is in residency program for family medicine. So in that regard, i can say that the book did it job.

For me, it was just a reminder of all the people from my parents, boses, friends, even strangers that God pushed to help me realize my dream at different levels and moments of my life.

What a phenomenal book! Wilkinson did a great job highlighting why we need to take action to achieve our dreams. Anybody who is looking to do more but is scared to do so should definitely read this.

This is a book that I’ve read several times, but it’s always a great read. It’s half story - half self-help. It’s a fun tale of the Nobody named Ordinary that awakens to his Big Dream, sets out from Familiar, and embarks on a journey to The Land of Promise.

It’s a reminder that there are Border Bullies that will discourage you - some that simply care and others that are just antagonists by nature - and there are Champions that have ventured out and found their Land of Promise that want to see you succeed.

There are Wastelands where things seem bleak and hopeless, but where you’ll find that The Dream Giver is so faithful.

There are Giants that will test your Faith. You’ll need to rely on the Dream Giver for strength. You’ll meet other Nobodies with Big Dreams that will fight alongside you!

And you will find Sanctuary where you’ll be invited in to a closeness with the Dream Giver, but you’ll have to answer the question of what is most important to you.

And probably my favorite line of the book:
“Your Dream - no matter how big - will make a tiny god.”

I absolutely love this book.
