Hahahaha! Oh cheesy 90s romance novels! I was clearing out the bookshelves, creating a donate pile and a reminder to read pile. I've had this book for almost two decades and it's never been read. It was going straight into the donate pile and I thought, "Why not?" Wild West! Romance! What could go wrong? Well, a lot. Repetitive, annoying, disturbing (begins with essentially a rape) and cloyingly sweet...I can't believe I used to read these non stop. Good enough for a laugh and replete with lots of love scenes. Why not indeed.

I love this author! She writes great stories! I loved the book but it did get a little tedious to read at times. I believe this is the authors intent to draw out the tension, the emotions, misconceptions and deceptions between the two characters. Still, a very enjoyable read.
In this story, we meet Calinda Braxton, who has travelled all the way from England to Fort Worth, Texas searching for her lost father. Bad luck follows her where she is robbed on a stage coach. With no money and no one willing to help her she is at her wits end. Then comes Nellie, Madame owner of the Red Satin Saloon, who decides to take her in and places Calinda in a “rented room” where the renter is not expected back in town. After Calinda eats and bathes, Nellie gives her Laudanum to rest. However, during the night, Lynx Cardone enters his rented room where he encounters a lovely sleeping Calinda in his bed. He tries to rouse her but to no avail. Thinking Nellie must have given him the "new" girl for the saloon as a gift, he decides to get in bed with her. Calinda is still delirious from the laudanum Nellie gave her when she readily falls for and responds to Lynx's kisses. One thing leads to another before Calinda can stop him. Lynx realizes too late that she was a virgin. The drug starts to wear off and Calinda gets her bearings back when reality sets in and she realizes what took place. What happens now? This is the start of their adventure. Enjoy!

As I read the reviews for this book I saw one by Zoe which is an almost identical account of my own. I read the book in my 9th grade year! It was my moms and til this day it is one of my favorite romance novels. I couldnt remember the name for years and when I finally did I bought it and read it several morr times since then. Timeless Passion is my second fave. Enjoy!

This is the first book I read with out having to read it for school. My Mother always had romance novels in the house. It was the summer between my freshman & sophmore year, we lived way out in the country with no friends close by I was driving my Mother crazy calling her at work. She finally said "GO Read A Book and Stop Calling Me" This was the first one I pulled out. For years I couldn't remember the name of this book. So glad I found it so that I can reread and remember why I love to read still.

I love this book, it's long been a favorite. Although there were a couple things I have a problem with Calinda tends to go back and forth from intelligent and making smart choices to impulsive and making not-so-smart choices. Also, it never gets mentioned why Salina and Lynx have matching cross necklaces, though they've never had a relationship.. I adored Lynx (also, love the name) he's a man of mystery and many secrets, but he's also caring, protective, tender, and sweet. I liked Calinda, too. She was brave and feisty. I highly recommend. <3

"Next time we meet, my flame-haired beauty, my chivalrous promise will be worthless. Rest assured, we will meet again."
-Lynx (in a note to Calinda)

"I've never met a woman so beautiful and innocent, yet so skillful she steals your mind. I'm afraid you're going to be unforgettable."
-Lynx

"I ain't never known you to fight over a woman, Cardone," Clint remarked.
"This one I will."
-Clint & Lynx

"Lynx, why are you staring at me like that?" she asked.
He straightened and shrugged. "I was just thinking how close I came to losing you. Now that I have you, Callie, I can't imagine my life without you."

"What's so amusing?" he inquired, eyeing her curiously.
"I don't believe this. I'm lying in bed with a near stranger, calmly chatting after making love. You are a wicked and potent temptation. You should be ashamed of yourself for demoralizing me. This is the most illogical and incredible thing I've ever done."
He chuckled. "Count me in. I'm just as astonished and confused. I'm glad I met you first. You'd best be on your guard, woman; I'll probably shoot the first cowpoke who looks at you sideways."
"How could I possibly notice him when my eyes are for you alone?" she quipped, caressing his smooth jawline.
"Just make sure you remember that while I'm gone. I wouldn't want to challenge some new sweetheart the moment I return."
"Aren't you mighty possessive for a man who has no claim on me?" she teased, snuggling up to him, savoring his words and new mood.
Lynx shifted to remove a cross of pounded Spanish silver from his neck. He slipped it over her head and vowed, "That says you're mine."
