The Spark is a behind the scenes view into Cirque du Soleil, and how an outside sports agent was able to get a look, and be drawn in, by the creativity and passion of the staff and performers. How the sports agent was changed by his time with the performers could be inspiring to some, or simply very interesting to any admirers of the Cirque du Soleil.

Good little read. It inspires a good work ethic. And it doesn't matter what you do whether it be cleaning house or running a company, it will open your eyes to a new way of thinking.

A fun imaginative look at the behind the scenes of Cirque Du Soleil and how one can learn creativity from things, and inspiration into one's creativity. Not much else there to this, and mostly (most likely) fabricated stories of composite characters. But still entertaining and quick.

Flat. Sadly, this books falls flat when it aims to inspire creativity. I have the sense this a story told to someone else and I'm trying to receive the significance of their ahh hah moment without any of the corrlelating substance that epiphanies engender. I question whether this is true or just a variation of a marketing ploy.

I dare not question the validity of the experience. This may have very well happened but the same creativity the Cirque Du Soleil uses to so profoundly alter a person's soul was not present in the telling of this story. If life truly went from monochrome to technicolor for this man, it's hard for me to really truly feel or see why. Sadly I think if he was real he was terribly boring and wasn't deserving of the experience he had. There's no life to this book and Cirque Du Soleil is a life altering experience because it bursts with life. A book worthy with that name on it should be written with that in mind.

The good thing is that the book is short but like a donut it is unsatisfying and full of regret.

AMAZING. Fantastic book that pushes you to find and create a job that you love. Very clever of them to use Cirque de Soleil as a platform to explain these concepts. I loved this.

A lovely parable of rediscovering the creative spark that burns inside all of us, revealed through one man's journey behind the scenes of Cirque du Soleil. Populated by a diverse cast of artists, acrobats, clowns, riggers, and choreographers—each with something universal to offer—this story will give you the gentle push you need to take a leap of faith into fulfilling your unrealized dreams.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a short and easy read, and it gave a glimpse into the world of Cirque du Soleil.

Last year, I went to a gym management conference in San Fran. One of the keynote speakers was Lyn Heward. And though I don't remember the details of what she talked about, I remember that she was phenomenal. So when we were in Vegas and wandering the Ká gift shop after the show and I saw her book, I knew I had to buy it. Besides, knowing that I was going back into the job market (blech), I figured I could do with some good inspiration.

This book has some good inspiration, but I must confess to not liking the presentation. At all. It's set up in a fictional narrative. Cool concept, but it just doesn't work right. I think this is because we are introduced to all these characters who are intriguing and wise and brilliant in their own way, but they each only get a page and a half to offer up some variation of an anecdotal soliloquy. And that was frustrating. For me, the end result is that I'm disappointed because I didn't get to spend enough time with the characters I wanted to and I don't get to walk away from it with the nuggets of wisdom that I wanted to pick up. I imagine that if I read it a second time and highlight those bits, I'll be happier, but that's not how I want to feel after reading an inspirational book about creativity.

Of course, I do think there is a bit more flame to my creative spark right now, so that might have made it worth it.

I've read this book a few times. I find that by reading it, I get my own spark back, especially during the winter doldrums time of year. As a teacher, it's important I continue to stay alive and creative.
