When I started this book, I expected a love story, to match with the writing skills of Honolulu. but instead I found a pathetic, lonely man, a tearful woman and their "ghost spirits" that couldn't even get along! Maybe Brennert did have a point with the way that he showed the character's lonely. boring lives that led them to suicide but personally I think Alan Brennert was going through a depressive phase when he wrote this book. Comparing the writing, the plot, the characterization to Honolulu, you would almost think that the Author's lonely, pathetic twin brother wrote this. Over all, i was very disapointed-----Febuary 1st 2010

One of my all-time favorite books. A touching romance novel without being schmaltzy. A contemporary fantasy without being too "far out". Filled with realistic characters, facing surprising turning points in their lives. I can't recommend this one highly enough.

Some of this book was predictable, but the ending was not predictable. Very touching story and for what it was, I give it 4 stars.

After reading Moloka'i and Honolulu but this author, two books that I absolutely loved, I decided to search for his first novel...big mistake.

*** Spoilers ***

I was excited to read this book, but ended up being disappointed.

Took me a while to get into the story, and ended up with an anticlimactic ending.

I'm all about stories about souls meeting while people are stuck in the "in-between" but i guess i just wanted them to end up together in the end. I'm a sucker for love stories, and i always want the ending to be a happy one.. Then when it skipped to years later, i was thinking "oh, this may be when they finally cross paths" BUT NOPE.

Not mad about it, but i'm also not quite happy about it. I definitely feel like their stories could've been a lot "deeper" than just mentioning the feeling of being alone on every page.

I gave 3 stars just because i can appreciate a suicidal story turning out to be a happy life for the characters. I'd always like to believe that anyone can get through their darkest days.

A tale of two people in separate rooms in a hospital, both comatose and the shared journey that they experienced in limboland. The plots and turns are definitely not predicable. (I don't want to spoil it for you) This book has been sitting around awhile and I finally got around to reading it. Very entertaining and imaginative.
