A different take

Enjoyed reading the methods of the man. Not your definitive guide, but doesn’t pretend to be. Great insight to one individuals take.

This is a great instructional book for the casual or beginning player. It focuses on ideas and strategies without spending too much time on the math of poker. This was the first hold'em book i read, and it definately improved my game.

Pretty good. Broken up into bite size chunks, it is easy to jump around to whatever section you want. Lots of good information and examples.

I'm terrible at poker. Not wanting to embarrass myself at the next poker night, I got Gordon's book. This is perhaps a little more advanced that what I could use, but it's a quick and readable introduction to poker strategy, and the art of imperfect information, livened up with examples from the table. Gordon provides the basics of "tight-and-aggressive" strategy, and why it wins most of the time, along with the bigger picture of tournament games and poker psychology. The mathematical parts of the book, on pot odds and quickly figuring the odds of your hand against an assumed AA or AK hand, as well as avoiding common statistical mistakes, is a little rough, and will take me another reread.

If there's any criticism that can be fairly levied against The Little Green Book is that it's become so popular that the 'meta' of the game has moved to take advantage of it. This book won't make you a star, but hopefully it'll keep me from embarrassing myself next Thursday.

Having read this book in small parts from time to time, I believe it is a good way of reading the book by just skimming thru the pages until you see a chapter with an interesting title:)
Any poker book is a good read!

This book is information-dense, but relatively clear to understand, though near the end there seemed to be some conflicting advice. I would recommend this book to an intermediate player, as there is plenty of terminology that is not introduced in the book with which you would need to be familiar. That said, this beginner has read other poker books before and only had to look up a few terms. My plan is to go back and place a Post-It note at a principle and practice it before moving on to the next until I can recognize the context and opportunities of each one.

There are a lot of poker books out there (and I've read many of them ;^), but this one is my favorite, perhaps because my playing style is very much like Phil Gordon's. I also like that he doesn't take him self too seriously, a problem that is rampant among the poker set.

Vai se tornar um livro de consulta (principalmente os últimos capítulos). Acho que é um pouco datado, mas é um começo pra quem é iniciante no Poker.
