A message of hope for those who suffer.

One of the most most important books ever written. The words were written 70+ years ago and never more true today. A message of hope for all who want a path to a better life

A design foor living that really works. This book helped me find the power to solve my problem. I think it is very well written- I use it as a textbook- and it has stood the test of time. I am slightly more partial to the third edition because it was my first, but the only difference is the stories.

I didn't realize this was so focused on the religious aspect, the need for a spiritual revolution. Reading the book itself it seems clear that the game changer is embracing religion and surrendering your life to God.

Wow it's like I can relate to every single page of this book. They really get to the meat of things. I love it and think this book is priceless. I'm reading it again with my sponsor right now which is definitely the best way to do it.

everyone should read this.

AA is possibly the greatest invention to ever come out of the U.S.

it's one of the best selling books of all time and has, whether you agree with it or not, saved many, many lives, not to mention the good it's done for the children of alcoholic parents.

thanks, bill wilson.

Working in the mental healthcare field as well as my personal acquaintances I have heard many different views of AA and other 12 Step groups, ranging from the opinion that they are a cult that provided them with zilch to being a spiritual program that was a miracle. After reading this book and talking with others I know that this book has been able to perform miracles. I would recommend it or its branch offs (NA,CA, OA, EDA, EA, Al Anon, etc.) to anybody that feels they may have an addiction problem, or friends, family members, employers and anybody else that wants to better understand addiction. I don't know whether it works for everybody, but it has worked for some.

No, I'm not an alcoholic. But this is a really important book that everyone should read.

I really struggled with how to rate the "Big Book." I've been sober for over 9 years now, and I stopped being a semi-regular AA probably 5 years ago. (And I was NEVER an "AA Nazi" at all. I never officially did all the Steps, and I'm pretty sure I've never even read the ENTIRE Big Book.) BUT, after I had been sober for 9 months on my own and went to my first meeting out of just a desperation to be around SOMEONE who might understand all the emotions I was going through, it meant so much to be able to share my sobriety and my struggles with other sober and struggling people. Having the Big Book and the "12 & 12" to pore over AT THAT TIME absolutely made a difference, and I will always treasure AA. However, I never could get totally comfortable with the god part of the program even then, and I have grown TOTALLY beyond all of that now. In fact, I know now that AA is no better at getting and keeping people sober than just quitting cold-turkey or any other recovery program. So, with my rating I tried to balance the importance of AA in my early recovery with the criticism of it that I eventually developed.

I read this along with a close friend who is overcoming alcoholism. Incredibly insightful and impressively organized/structured/edited. I'm not sure I ever really understood the disease prior to reading this and it is inspiring that such a program has provided relief and fellowship to so many. Re-affirms a lot of the central tenets of most spiritual practices (accepting the lack of control inherent in life, a focus on giving back/service to others, humility, self-examination, fellowship). The personal accounts were heartbreaking but still uplifting. Most of us, whether we're fighting a disease or not, also want acceptance, support, and a sense of inner solace/balance in our lives.

A gift from my brother who was in a drunken rollover car wreck last year (2023) because apparently, to paraphrase him, I need to stop drinking wine and smoking cigarettes, and concentrate on starting a family and getting a stable job.

Dude. Dude? See that blot out on the horizon? That is the ship that has sailed.
